Since purchasing his first Tesla in 2016, Erik Strait’s passion for Teslas has driven him to customize them into unique, high-performance builds. His latest project, a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, represents his commitment to innovation and creativity. A Love Affair with Teslas
Erik’s love for Teslas began with a simple purchase, but it quickly turned into a full-blown obsession. “I purchased my first Tesla in 2016 and have been all EV since,” he says. The ability to modify and personalize these cars has always been a key part of their appeal for Erik. His previous projects include a full race car spec Tesla Model 3 Performance, which he debuted at SEMA and raced across the USA and Japan. This Cybertruck, however, represents a new frontier.
The Cybertruck: A Blank Canvas for Modifications
For Erik, the Cybertruck was love at first sight. “Modifying this Cybertruck is something I wanted to do since I saw it roll on stage in front of me at the unveiling event in 2019,” he recalls. The vehicle’s unique design and cutting-edge technology make it a perfect platform for modifications, and Erik wasted no time in getting to work.
The Cybertruck’s build features an impressive U.S. Navy inspired blue and white camouflage wrap by TesBros, tint by Colorado Detail, and 22” CYBRHEX wheels by Unplugged Performance paired with Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires. The exterior is further enhanced with cross bars by MARS Adventure Gear and Starlink internet, which ensure that Erik stays connected no matter where his adventures take him. Inside, accessories by Abstract Ocean add a touch of luxury and functionality.
Erik’s Custom Cybertruck Mod
One of Erik’s favorite modifications is the frunk air compressor setup, which allows him to air down and up his tires for off-roading. This feature is convenient and helps the Cybertruck in any terrain. “The air up/down system I built for off-roading in the frunk is my favorite aspect of the build,” Erik shares.
Despite the challenges of working with a brand-new vehicle platform, Erik’s experience and ingenuity have allowed him to overcome every obstacle. “So much is still unknown about the Cybertruck, so tapping into the electrical system and even custom making mounts can be tough,” he admits. But these challenges only fueled his determination to create something truly unique.
A Community of Innovators
Erik’s journey with the Cybertruck has been supported by a community of like-minded innovators and sponsors. Companies like Unplugged Performance and Yokohama have played a crucial role in the build. “Unplugged Performance has a proven track record of developing the best parts, and we built the race car Model 3 together,” Erik explains. Yokohama’s high-level off-road tires provide the perfect blend of traction, durability, and ride quality, making them an ideal choice for the Cybertruck.
Erik’s inspiration comes not only from his own experiences but also from the broader car enthusiast community. “I grew up watching TJ Hunt and other car YouTubers. But none ever did work on EVs,” he says. This market gap motivated Erik to customize the Cybertruck, setting new standards and encouraging others to join him.
A Testament to Capability and Potential
While the Cybertruck’s design may be polarizing, Erik believes that its capabilities speak for themselves. “While the looks of the Cybertruck might be polarizing to some, the capability of the truck is immense, and it offers so much,” he emphasizes. His build shows what you can achieve with some creativity, plenty of passion, and the right support.
