Did you know that Hollywood, Florida, isn’t just famous for its beaches and vibrant nightlife? It’s also home to Jason Halvorsen, a yacht captain with a deep-seated passion for both the sea and custom electric vehicles. From his early days customizing trucks and Jeeps to his dedication to pushing the limits with vehicles like the Tesla Model S and now the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, Jason represents the dedication of creativity and individuality within automotive culture. As he rightly expresses, “I wanted to show that the custom EV space can be more than just Teslas.”

Jason’s story into electric vehicles started with a desire to break away from the norm, a feeling many car lovers can relate to when mixing style with sustainability. After years of working on trucks, his switch to a Tesla Model S in 2019 was a big shift. However, it was Ford’s announcement of an all-electric Mustang, the Mach-E, that really sparked his interest.
“When Ford said they were making an electric Mustang, I knew I had to be among the first to customize one,” Jason recalls.
Mustang Mach-E GT Exterior
When Jason got his hands on one of the first Mustang Mach-E GTs in Florida, he immediately planned it out to make it a showstopper. Drawing inspiration from Gulf Oil racing colors, he chose a bold 3M wrap in Light Sky Blue and Burnt Orange from Signature Customs. Despite early doubts about combining such heritage with an electric vehicle, Jason’s choice was a hit among enthusiasts, proving that blending tradition and creativity can be a winning formula.
“I went into that decision knowing that putting an oil company’s race colors on my EV would not be loved by all but I was surprised by how well it was received by most,” he mentioned.
Mach-E Custom Suspension
One of the most challenging upgrades was modifying the car’s suspension. When local shops hesitated, Jason teamed up with Danny from Slammered Inc. Together, they designed a custom air suspension system using Air Lift Performance 3P. This setup improved the Mach-E GT’s ground clearance, where Jason could fully lay-it-out on 20-inch Vossen HF5 wheels wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN Neova tires.
Jason’s words reflect a sentiment that resonates with many people: “The reaction I get when I air the car out and it lays on the ground—it’s priceless.”
Reflecting on the challenges he faced during the build, Jason recognized the Mach-E’s lack of aftermarket support, which meant he had to carefully plan at every turn.
“There aren’t many aftermarket parts available for the Mustang Mach-E GT, so every modification required extra effort compared to other cars,” he explained.

This determination shows his dedication to pushing the boundaries in the custom EV community, striving to create something unique despite the obstacles, always aiming to create something unique despite the challenges.
RUINED EV Community
Jason’s love for cars extends beyond technical achievements to a deep appreciation for community. His entry in RUINED EV, a club dominated by Tesla enthusiasts and owners, holds special significance.
“Being the first non-Tesla member in RUINED EV was a major highlight,” Jason reveals.
The acceptance he received validates his efforts and fuels his belief in a future where EV customization embraces diversity and inclusivity.
Award-Winning Ford Mustang Mach-E GT
