  • Bridgestone aims for carbon neutrality and 100% renewable/recyclable materials in tires by 2050, 40% by 2030.
  • Designed for popular EV models like Tesla and Ford Mustang Mach E, Turanza EV excels in tread wear, all-season performance, and low noise.

During Electrify Expo’s Industry Day in Long Beach, CA, Bridgestone unveiled a new product, the Turanza EV, with the goal of enhancing the electric vehicle driving experience, in response to the growing trend towards electrification in the industry. The keynote was moderated by Davis Adams-Smith, and the speakers included Riccardo Cichi (President & Chief Sales Officer, Bridgestone), Dale Harrigle (Chief Engineer for Tire Development, Bridgestone), and Will Robbins (Director of Consumer Product Strategy, Bridgestone). They expressed their dedication to sustainability and outlined their plans to improve both performance and sustainability in electric vehicles. Additionally, they discussed the design process and potential impact of the Turanza EV in the electric vehicle market, highlighting its exceptional features for EV drivers.

Ricardo Cichi kicked things off by emphasizing the importance of tires in supporting the electrified mobility future. He said, “Tires are an absolute critical contributor to the progress we will make in ushering an electrified Mobility future. We must ensure not only outstanding performance and improved sustainability but also exceptional safety.”

At Bridgestone, they’re all about being a sustainable solution company. With their E8 commitment, they’re setting aggressive goals to reduce their environmental impact, like aiming for carbon neutrality and using 100% renewable and recyclable materials in their tires by 2050. That’s a step in the right direction, given the environmental implications of tire waste.

But what’s really exciting is Bridgestone’s Enlighten technology, a suite of technologies aimed at expanding all-season performance, providing longer wear life, and incorporating more renewable materials. Ricardo mentioned the proprietary new polymer material called Peak Life, which is a real game-changer for the Turanza EV tire. This breakthrough technology enables the tire to deliver maximum performance while having the lowest environmental impact.

Will Robbins took the stage, telling us about the increasing demand for electric vehicles. Over 30% of new sales are expected to be EVs by the end of the decade, and eventually, over half of the vehicles on the road will be electric. California has led the way in EV adoption, but it’s not just a California thing anymore. EVs are spreading across the country, creating a need for tires that can perform in various markets and weather conditions.

That’s where the Turanza EV comes in. Will mentioned that consumers love their EVs, but they often feel dissatisfied with tire performance. Bridgestone wanted to address this gap and deliver a tire that excels in tread wear performance, all-season performance, low noise, and excellent traction. The Turanza EV is designed to fill this need, and it’s targeted at popular EV models like the Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, Model Y, and the Ford Mustang Mach E.

The Turanza EV comes in 18 different sizes, providing approximately 70% coverage of all EVs on the road, especially in the growing premium segments. It’s engineered with a focus on performance attributes like high load capacity and handling from performance tires and ride comfort, low noise, and wet and winter handling from touring tires.

But the real star of the show is the Peak Life polymer, which enhances wear resistance and reduces rolling resistance, making the Turanza EV Tire a great choice for EV drivers who care about their vehicle’s range and overall performance.
