Electrify Outdoor Rec, presented by Falken Tires, at Electrify Expo in Austin felt like an entire movement rolled into one weekend.

Seriously, what could be better than combining EVs with the great outdoors? This past weekend, Electrify Outdoor Rec, a dedicated area at Electrify Expo, North America’s largest EV and technology festival, took over Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

And if you missed it, clear your calendar for next year. This space was the ultimate destination for outdoor enthusiasts and EV fans to relax, geek out, and dive into everything related to outdoor living.

Neil Tjin, Director of Electrify Outdoor Rec, said it best, “The EV outdoor recreation space is blowing up, and we are excited to bring all things outdoors to Electrify Expo. A huge thanks to our presenting partner, Falken Tires, for helping make our Outdoor Rec area a booming success.”

A Campground That Felt Like Home (Without the Mosquitoes)

Electrify Outdoor Rec is a campground-style lounge with tents, a grassy chill zone, games, a fire pit, and cozy lounge chairs. Basically, the perfect outdoor hangout dropped into the heart of Electrify Expo.

You didn’t need to be an outdoors expert to appreciate it, but this was the ultimate spot to kick back, recharge, and connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts between EV test rides or after checking out the latest gear.

And Falken Tires did not hold back either. Their booth featured the latest tires for both trucks and cars, plus they showed the coolest (and award-winning) outdoor rec vehicle at the show, a fully kitted-out Toyota Tundra that looked ready for some outdoor hill climbing.

From RVs to Bikes, A Who’s Who of Outdoor Brands

Grounded RV, Electric Outdoor, and Voltaic Marine made the trek all the way from Michigan to show us how EVs are changing the way we camp, boat, and everything in between. They brought and displayed their latest products, but more importantly, brought their vision of what outdoor adventures could look like in the near future. “Wait till you see what these guys have in store for 2025,” mentioned Tjin, “along with Innovate Marquette.”

This has me already planning my next adventure into the great outdoors, or at least dreaming about it. If you’re like me, and itching to explore, these brands are worth keeping an eye on. I’d like to think that they’re changing the way we experience and connect with nature, making it easier, and way more exciting, to get out there.

Need portable power for your next adventure? Anker had you covered with solutions that practically scream, “Let’s go off-grid!”, except, you know, without the noise of a gas-powered generator, kind of way.

“The Outdoor Rec area was the place to be if you were an EV enthusiast that wanted to check out all things pertaining to outdoor living,” added Tjin.

And if biking is your thing, you couldn’t miss JackRabbit’s demo area. Their OG and XG electric bikes were ready for test rides, and these little bikes (micro bikes, they call it) are super fun to ride. I’m sure you can ride them through campgrounds with no problems. They’re small, lightweight, and crazy fun to ride, exactly what you need for outdoor recreation.

Outdoor Recreation Is Booming

Outdoor recreation is so much bigger than just having fun, though let’s be real, fun is absolutely a big part of it. And the electrification of this space is just getting started. From e-bikes that fit in your trunk to electric RVs ready for off-grid adventures, the future is packed with possibilities.

And with over half of Americans participating in outdoor activities at least once a year (that’s 175.8 million people in 2023), the appetite for new ways to experience nature is only growing.

And on a personal level, heading outdoors does wonders for your mental health, helps melt away stress, and even boosts physical fitness. Honestly, who couldn’t use that kind of reset? “Touch grass,” they say…

From biking and camping to rafting and birding, or simply relaxing by the fire pit, outdoor activities are as diverse as the people who enjoy them. And while public lands like national parks and forests offer endless opportunities for adventure, there’s still work to be done to make these spaces more accessible and inclusive.

The Future of Electrify Outdoor Rec

This is just the beginning. Electrify Outdoor Rec scratched the surface this year, and plans are already in motion to expand the experience in 2025. “With partners like Falken Tires and a growing lineup of outdoor brands, the connection between EVs and outdoor activities is growing stronger by the day,” states Tjin.

So, if you’re planning a camping trip, thinking about your next hike, or just itching to see what’s new in the latest EV tech, Electrify Outdoor Rec at Electrify Expo is where you need to be. Trust me, this event has something for everyone who loves the outdoors or is curious about what’s next in outdoor adventure gear.
