Rediscovering the Electric Dream

Mark’s journey into the world of EVs began in his teenage years, with a profound love for Volkswagen. From Beetles to Buses, he embraced the beauty of these iconic air-cooled machines. After a brief hiatus from the automotive scene, Mark’s passion reignited in 2010 when he decided to convert an internal combustion engine (ICE) car into an electric wonder. Through extensive blog surfing, he discovered the transformative power of lithium batteries, a game-changer that propelled him into the world of electric vehicle conversions.

Naturally, for a classic VW enthusiast like Mark, the Porsche 914 was the perfect candidate for his electric dreams. After acquiring one online and eagerly awaiting its arrival on a flatbed, Mark started on his two-year journey of restoration and electrification. Thanks to his electronics training during his time in the Marine Corps, he expertly wired the electric vehicle systems, infusing life into the legendary Porsche 914.

Mastering the Art of EV Conversions

But Mark’s prowess extended beyond his personal builds. He has performed six conversions for EV West, an esteemed electric vehicle conversion company, which included vintage Beetles, a Ghia, and three VW Buses. He even lent a helping hand in private conversions, working on Porsche Speedsters and a VW Thing. Notably, Mark’s exceptional skills were put to the test when he built the battery packs for EV West’s Electraliner, the Bonneville land speed electric Class 2 record holder, achieving a breathtaking speed of 231 mph.

However, Mark’s favorite modification undoubtedly lies in the center console, where a 10-inch Samsung tablet display takes center stage, providing him with crucial information and seamless connectivity.
