The Hyundai electric lineup continues to dominate the headlines with awards from noteworthy organizations. This time, The Hyundai IONIQ 6 earned a spot on the 2023 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems.
Sharing the Top 10 List with Automotive Icons
The IONIQ 6 shares the honor with vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with a 5.5-liter V8, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse with a 5.0-liter V8, the Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and the Lucid Air Touring proving that Hyundai is competing with high-end vehicles with significantly higher price points.
WardsAuto awards this honor to vehicles that have significant advances or improvements. The IONIQ 6 was recognized thanks to its performance, charging capability, range, and price.
Following the IONIQ 5 Honors
The IONIQ 6 award follows the 2022 honor given to the IONIQ 5, which landed on Wards list for the same reasons. Since 1995, Hyundai has earned 16 spots on the Wards 10 Best Engine & Propulsion Systems list.
The IONIQ EVs use the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) system that provides maximum interior space with room for two electric motors and a substantial battery.
Recognizing Innovation
Byungho Lee, director of the Hyundai America Technology Center’s electrified propulsion development said, “Earning two consecutive Wards 10 Best Engine & Propulsion System awards is a remarkable achievement…Its innovative architecture enables faster charging, extended driving ranges, and superior handling dynamics to elevate the electric vehicle experience to a whole new level.”
The IONIQ 6 comes with several drive modes including Eco, Normal, and Sport. Bob Gritzinger, editor-in-chief of WardsAuto said, “Eco mode is comfortable for running errands, but sport mode turns this car into a rocket ship. This is clearly the top of the heap when it comes to battery-electric powertrains and deserves a second year on our list, this time in the IONIQ 6.”
WardsAuto has recognized outstanding engines and propulsion systems for 29 years. For 2023, 32 vehicles competed for the ten spots, and those 32 vehicles included the top 10 finishers for 2022.
Celebrating the Win
On October 18, 2023, WardsAuto will recognize the winners during the AutoTech: Electrification conference in Detroit, Michigan. The company makes its home in Southfield, Michigan, and is dedicated to taking a forward-looking perspective on the automotive industry, which it has done for over 90 years.
