NIO is taking no chances as it expands into the European market.
The NIO ET7 started being delivered to four European countries back in October, and now the Chinese automaker is making sure that it’s acing safety tests to ensure the car’s build quality for the broader market. The latest version of the ET7 recently got five stars on its C-NCAP safety and crash test.
The C-NCAP is a car safety and crash performance assessment program formed in 2006 under the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). When it first came out, the program was denigrated for being too weak and that too many cars could easily achieve a five-star rating. Now, the C-NCAP is much more in line with the Euro NCAP assessment program, which means that European audiences would be more receptive to these Chinese safety ratings.

For this test, the NIO ET7 went through a frontal full width collision, a side pole impact, a collision with a mobile deformable barrier, and a whiplash seat assessment. The final C-NCAP test results gave the ET7 a 88.18% safety rating — which is actually a lower rating than the 91% it scored in the Euro NCAP test.
In addition, the ET7 got a 91.44% rating for safety assistance functions thanks to the automatic emergency braking system and a LiDAR sensor.
Overall, the ET7 was rated higher than the Volkswagen ID.3, which was also recently tested by CATARC.
