Genesis GV70 Will Be Assembled in the U.S.

  • The U.S. market will soon be getting all versions of the Genesis GV70 assembled in Montgomery, Alabama.
  • Over $300 million has been invested in upgrading the Montgomery facility to handle this production expansion.
  • The GV70 is the best-selling model from Genesis, so this will open up the American market for the model even more.

Genesis recently announced that its popular Genesis GV70 SUV will now be assembled in the U.S., joining the Electrified GV70 that started production earlier this year. To accommodate this expansion, Genesis has invested over $300 million in upgrading its production facility, including adding warehouse space and making modifications to the stamping and weld shops to create the vehicles’ bodies.

What This Means for Genesis

Claudia Marquez, the chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America, expressed her delight at the development, stating, “We are pleased to bring further assembly of Genesis vehicles to the United States, bolstering availability of our products and investing in our communities.”

Localizing the GV70 assembly here in the U.S. is a significant step forward in making this popular model more accessible to American consumers. Starting from the 2024 model year, all GV70 vehicles for the U.S. market will be assembled in Montgomery, Alabama, meaning that the electrified versions should be eligible for tax incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Ernie Kim, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA), praised the Alabama team for their exceptional work, saying, “Since February, our nearly 4,000 Alabama team members have successfully assembled the Electrified GV70 with the Genesis customer’s highest expectations in mind. Now, they are ready to launch the broader GV70 lineup with the same commitment to safety and quality that has been a mainstay at HMMA since 2005.”

About the Genesis GV70

The GV70 is the best-selling vehicle in the Genesis lineup. It offers a rather posh driving experience by incorporating state-of-the-art technology alongside an athletic driving approach. You can get one with either a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder or a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine.

Meanwhile, every interior detail has been meticulously crafted for the luxury Genesis experience, including a 14.5-inch HD multimedia display and a 4G LTE wifi hotspot as standard features. Options include a heating steering wheel, Nappa leather, and a three-zone automatic climate control system. It also comes with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety technologies, including Highway Driving Assist.

The 2023 Genesis GV70 and Electrified GV70 SUVs are currently available at select U.S. retailers. And if you want to make it easier to charge up your electric GV70, maybe the Genesis Home ecosystem might be up your alley.
