MV Agusta Gets Lucky (Explorer)

MV Agusta embraces Dakar spirit for Lucky Explorer off-road ebikes

Italian motorcycle brand MV Agusta embraces its Dakar heritage for the launch of their new Lucky Explorer Project e-bikes.

Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta already entered the e-bike space last year with the Amo series, and now the company has put its focus on endurance and gravel riders with a pair of Lucky Explorer e-bikes – a loving homage to the Cagiva Elefant V-twin 900 that brought home two wins from the Dakar desert rally in the early 1990s.

MV Agusta’s e-bikes channel the spirit of the Paris-Dakar-racing Cagiva Elefant.

First, there’s the E-Enduro, which is a full suspension off-roader. It comes with a Fox Float suspension fork and a Fox DHX2 rear shock with SLS spring, all built around a full carbon frame. The mid-mount motor is a Bosch Performance Line CX that produces 85 Nm (62.6 lb.ft) of torque and offers pedal-assist up to 15.5 mph.

The E-Enduro’s motor is paired with a Bosch Powerline 750-Wh PowerTube battery for up to 87 miles of range per charge. It also comes with a SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS 12-speed groupset designed for trail-riding flexibility.

MV Agusta says that the E-Enduro model, “represents the synthesis of a tireless design and development work with the vision of creating a unique Enduro capable of offering breathless riding experience, user-friendly controls, first-rate performance and charm.”

Then there’s the E-Gravel model, which offers a more sporty forward stance with its step-over frame and FSA drop handlebar. Here, the rear-hub motor is a Mahle X20 paired with a 36-V, 350-Wh battery for a range of 87 miles per charge.

The Fox 32 K Float AX suspension fork will help to smooth out some of the terrain, while the Campagnolo Ekar disc brakes will produce the stopping power. It’ll also be a fairly nimble e-bike at just 29.5 lbs.

The company says of the E-Gravel model that it “represents an idea of MV Agusta for exploring new horizons off the beaten path, with carbon frame build from Campagnolo Ekar components, to guarantee a compact, lightweight, essential and functional bicycle, with an intense off-road character.”
