Chinese EV giant NIO celebrated Christmas a little differently this year, unveiling two new, high-end electric vehicles on Dec. 24th!
NIO’s annual NIO Day event landed on December 24th this year, and the company arrived in Hefei, China, in a high style, with not one – but two all-new electric vehicles, one of which marks the start of a entirely new model line for the Chinese EV brand that’s already sold over 100,000 BEVs in 2022 alone (and more than 300,000 since 2017).
The two new NIO models are dubbed the ES8 and EC7, respectively – and, while the ES8 is a replacement of an existing model, the EC7 is an all-new, high riding “coupe” offering.
Both new NIOs are based on the company’s latest NT2.0 platform, which includes a Mercedes-Benz style air suspension and an optional dual-motor powertrain good for up to 644 HP. That’s enough to launch the EC7 from 0-62 MPH (100 kmh) in a mere 3.8 seconds, with in the seven-passenger ES8 reaching the mark just three tenths later, at 4.1 seconds.
Battery options for both NT2.0-platformed NIO vehicles include 75 and 100 kWh units, with pricing set to begin at something like $60,000 US (which does not include a battery subscription).
