Soon, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will have an electric off-road vehicle charging network, made possible through a collaboration between Polaris and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. In June 2023, Polaris secured a Mobility Public-Private Partnership & Programming (MP4) grant of $700,000 to develop an ORV charging network in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Today, this network spans over 100 miles of scenic off-road trails.

“It is an honor to mark the opening of this unique off-road electric charging network developed in partnership with the State of Michigan and the local communities along this trail system,” commented Andrew Chasse, Polaris’ Vice President of Strategy and Partnerships.

“Polaris and Michigan are connected in our efforts to bring exciting innovation and the latest technology to outdoor recreation. I’d like to thank the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in particular for allowing Polaris the opportunity to play a role in such an important initiative for the state and this standout milestone for the powersports industry.”

Michigan, dubbed the “Make-It State,” is celebrating this milestone as proof of its teamwork and progressive mindset. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is known for its stunning natural landscapes, from forests to lakes, and waterfalls abound. And collaborations like this one are helping Michigan be a leader in electric mobility.

Justine Johnson, Michigan’s Chief Mobility Officer, wholeheartedly embraces this collaborative effort.

“Working in tandem with Polaris to launch an electric off-road vehicle charging network in the Upper Peninsula, exemplifies how working through public private partnerships bring ideation to fruition in every corner of Michigan. We applaud Polaris’s effort to support the growth of a reliable EV charging infrastructure in one of Michigan’s favorite ORV riding destinations.”

Polaris teamed up with Yotta Energy, based in Texas and renowned for renewable energy storage, to supply the charging equipment. Yotta’s REV charging station is a versatile EV charging solution featuring integrated solar capacity and 120kWh of onboard energy storage. This setup can connect to the grid or operate autonomously, making it ideal for both remote wilderness and bustling city environments alike.

As part of this off-road EV charging network initiative, Polaris also announced that Hamilton’s North Coast Adventures, a local Polaris Adventures Outfitter near Ontonagon, Mich., has become the nation’s first in offering a rental fleet of Polaris’ all-electric off-road vehicle, the RANGER XP Kinetic.

Recently launched, these rentals enable Polaris Adventures customers to experience the breathtaking beauty of Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula on The Pioneer ORV Trail using the latest electric off-road vehicles and utilizing the new off-road charging network.

Polaris is improving the riding experience and also leading the way in integrating electric powertrain technology into all its products. Chasse elaborated, “Our approach to electrification remains centered around understanding where we can best incorporate EV technology to enhance the riding experience and provide an incredible offering to customers.”
