Kentucky’s Governor, Andy Beshear, and Federal Highway Administrator, Shailen Bhatt, celebrated the start of construction for the first NEVI EV charging site in the Southeastern United States. This development, located at Circle K in Richmond, Kentucky, signifies a major step forward along the heavily traversed Interstate 75.

The site will feature state-of-the-art ABB E-mobility Terra 184 chargers, specially designed to meet the strict Build America, Buy America (BABA) criteria. These chargers adhere to NEVI’s technical standards and are primed for seamless integration with the “NACS-ready” system, promising quick and efficient charging for Circle K customers. Each charger features an impressive capacity of up to 180 kW, ensuring speedy recharges for EV drivers on the go.

Chris Nordh, Head of ABB E-mobility in North America, stressed the importance of dependable charging infrastructure, noting, “Our customers and drivers rely on charging infrastructure to be dependable and easy to use.”

Circle K, a leading name in convenience and fuel retail, is rapidly expanding its EV charging network. Aaron Smorodin, Head of Business Development for Circle K, expressed the company’s dedication to meeting evolving customer needs, stating, “At Circle K, we’re committed to providing a range of mobility solutions to support our customers’ journeys, no matter how they power their vehicles.”

With EV adoption rates rising across the country, initiatives like the NEVI program and partnerships with convenience store operators play a crucial role. ABB E-mobility is at the forefront of this movement, supplying NEVI-compliant chargers and collaborating with stakeholders to make electric transportation accessible to all.

Manufactured with precision in South Carolina, the Terra 184 chargers represent ABB E-mobility’s dedication to quality. Designed to meet rigorous standards and certifications, including NEVI requirements, these chargers come equipped with features such as ENERGY STAR certification and OCPP conformance. Additionally, plans are underway to incorporate high-power J3400 connectors into the Richmond chargers, ensuring compatibility with Tesla vehicles and future NACS models.
