The Bosch eBike System Brings New Innovations to E-biking

  • Bosch has developed its own e-bike system
  • The drive systems are built for mountain bikers, commuters, and people who love to tour
  • New batteries provide maximum range while remaining lightweight
  • Different drive modes give riders the versatility to adjust the level of support from the motor

It’s important that e-biking is accessible to everyone, whether it’s for daily commutes, leisurely rides, or off-road adventures. Bosch is taking this to heart and has developed its own innovative e-bike system that’s designed to give the smoothest riding experience possible

The multi-sensor concept allows support from the e-bike’s motor to be perfectly coordinated with the rider. The sensors measure torque, speed, and acceleration more than 1,000 times per second, ensuring seamless interaction between the rider and their bike.

Available Drive Systems

Bosch offers a range of drive systems for e-bikes that feature powerful motors and efficient batteries, providing riders with the support they need to tackle even the toughest terrain. The Performance Line CX, in particular, is designed for off-road use and offers up to 340% pedal assistance, while the Performance Line Speed can reach speeds of up to 28 mph — depending on location and local laws.

It’s worth noting that in the US, the maximum speed for an eBike is 20 mph, so the Bosch system will shut off motor support automatically once the bike reaches that speed.

Here’s a rundown of the different drive systems available:

  • Active Line: Designed for urban mobility, the Active Line is lightweight, quiet and agile for easy city commuting.
  • Active Line Plus: Ideal for spontaneous excursions and everyday mobility, the Active Line Plus extends the range of the e-bike.
  • Cargo Line: The Cargo Line is a powerful drive system that’s perfect for eCargo bikes, offering support for heavy loads.
  • Performance Line: The Performance Line is a nearly silent drive system designed for sporty trekking and relaxed excursions.
  • Performance Line Speed: With the Performance Line Speed, the e-bike can travel at speeds up to 45 km/h for fast commuting.
  • Performance Line CX: The Performance Line CX offers a unique eMTB experience, featuring a compact, lightweight, and smart drive unit ideal for demanding and connected e-bikers.
  • Performance Line CX Race: Perfect for professional eMTB and ambitious recreational athletes, the Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition is a powerful and versatile drive system.

Components and Accessories

As well as the drive systems, Bosch also offers a range of components and accessories to enhance the e-biking experience. These include displays, batteries, and chargers, as well as lights, locks, and even a smartphone hub that allows riders to connect their devices to their e-bikes.

A New Generation of Batteries

Bosch batteries are a lightweight source of energy for e-bikes and have a built-in battery management system. These include:

  • Frame battery: This frame battery sits close to the bike’s center of gravity to ensure optimal weight distribution.
  • Luggage rack battery: On step-through bikes, the luggage rack battery frees up space to allow the rider to mount and dismount safely.
  • Integrated battery: Bosch’s PowerTube can be integrated perfectly into the frame, creating a clean eBike look.
  • DualBattery: This gives double the power by linking two Bosch batteries to deliver up to 1,250 Wh to provide greater range. This is ideal for touring bikes, long-distance commuters, and cargo bikers.

Is Bosch the Future of E-Biking?

As e-biking continues to grow in popularity, Bosch is well-positioned to be a major player in the industry. With its commitment to innovation, reliability, and accessibility, the brand is poised to drive the next generation of e-bike technology and transform the way we ride.

The different riding modes make sure that each Bosch-powered e-bike is versatile enough for all environments. These modes include:

  • Race: Optimal support for eMTB racing
  • Cargo: Maximum support for eCargo bikes with up to 400% pedal power
  • Turbo: Direct, maximum support for steep ascents
  • Auto: Automatic adjustment of support based on speed changes
  • eMTB: Dynamic support for a natural riding sensation during mountain biking
  • Sport: Powerful support for sporty and city commuting rides
  • Tour+: Smooth incremental support for energy-saving and sporty rides
  • Tour: Uniform support for long rides
  • Eco mode: Low-level support for maximum efficiency and range
  • Off: No support, but all display functions are still available

Bosch eBike Systems is leading the e-bike industry, offering a wide range of drive systems, components, and accessories that are revolutionizing the way we ride. With the brand’s focus on innovation, reliability, and accessibility, Bosch is helping to make e-biking more accessible and convenient than ever before.
