You know that moment when a new model pops up and you catch yourself thinking, wait, how did this one slip past everyone? That vibe fits the 2026 Subaru Uncharted EV perfectly. It rolls in with a quiet confidence, then you take a look at the numbers and your brain does a small double take

A compact electric crossover with an estimated 300 miles of range and a $34,995 starting point suddenly feels like a curveball for shoppers who want capability, comfort, and a price that stays grounded.

How did Subaru manage to roll out an EV that fits the daily grind, the weekend dirt road, the snowy grocery run, and still undercut a good portion of the EV market on price?

Subaru of America’s President and COO Jeff Walters said, “Uncharted expands on Subaru’s strategy for EV adoption in the U.S., and we crafted it for customers who want value and capability in a model that feels familiar.” His comment speaks to Subaru’s approach. A clear purpose.

The starting point sits with the Premium FWD model. Limited numbers, front wheel drive, 221 horsepower, and that estimated 300 mile range that helps reduce charging anxiety.

The interior carries far more equipment than most entry EVs, including a 14 inch touchscreen, a digital key, heated seats, a wiper de-icer, and dual wireless chargers. You get LED headlights with washers, a power rear gate, and a stout 8.2 inch ground clearance that aligns with Subaru’s identity.

Nothing fancy. Functional touches that people appreciate when the weather turns messy.

Things scale quickly with the Sport and GT trims. Subaru loads these with Symmetrical All Wheel Drive paired with dual motors that climb to 338 horsepower. Range estimates land around 285 miles for Sport and roughly 270 for the GT.

The Sport trim adds X-MODE settings, StarTex upholstery, a heated leather wheel, memory seating, and a surround view monitor. The GT trims it out further with a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, a Harman Kardon audio system, and heated rear seats.

It feels like Subaru asked a group of owners what they wanted and simply followed the list.

A high capacity 74.7 kWh battery supports every trim. It comes with a temperature conditioning system for cold climates. Subaru says the system “delivers more consistent charging performance for drivers in northern regions.”

The battery accepts up to 150 kW and uses an 11 kW onboard charger for quicker home charging sessions. Subaru also joins the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which opens access to over 25,000 stations across the U.S.

That part matters a lot for buyers who want access without the usual headaches.

Handling stays central to Subaru’s engineering. Their team tuned the suspension for loose surfaces and created stability by combining high strength steel, underfloor battery support, and aerodynamic tweaks.

The Uncharted EV sits nearly seven inches shorter than the Solterra, yet cargo space behind the second row reaches over 25 cubic feet. That gives the Uncharted a Crosstrek sized turning radius with cabin space that still feels practical.

Subaru describes the tuning as “carefully balanced to create grip and predictable reactions on gravel, dirt, and snow,” which pulls this EV closer to the brand’s personality.

And the pricing. Subaru lists the Uncharted EV Premium FWD at $34,995, the Sport at $39,795, and the GT at $43,795. That pricing places the Uncharted under many competitors, including the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV once you compare horsepower and features.

Subaru seems fully aware of this. Subaru mentioned it built Uncharted for customers who want capability without rising costs blocking their purchase.

Paint options include Coastal Wolf Gray Metallic, Habanero Orange Metallic, Cosmic White Pearl, Astro Black Mica, and Metropolis Gray. Two tone versions add a premium charge on GT trims.

The model comes out of Japan, and deliveries begin early next year, which gives Subaru a chance to plant itself early in the compact EV conversation.

You get a capable electric crossover with real range, strong equipment for daily comfort, and traction that behaves like a Subaru on loose surfaces.

You also get pricing that sits far lower than buyers often expect from an EV with AWD and over 300 miles for one trim.

For many families, this could feel like a turning point in the EV market simply because Subaru focused on practicality instead of theatrics. Function done with care.

Subaru may have kept the tone calm, but the Uncharted EV arrives with purpose. A roomy compact EV with long range, Subaru capability, a friendly price, and tech that actually supports daily life. This one deserves attention.
