Waiting for your EV is to charge up can be a pain, but that might change with some new “extreme” fast-charging batteries!
StoreDot is developing what they call their Extreme Fast-Charging (XFC) EV battery cells. These battery cells not only charge quickly, but they also have high energy density, offer impressive longevity, and are commercially viable. And the best part? Over 15 global automotive brands are already testing them out.
These batteries have already undergone third-party testing to help prove that they’re not just wishful thinking. In fact, StoreDot is actively seeking partnerships this year and already has those 15+ competing automakers on board to help with further testing. If things go smoothly, we could see mass production of these cells for use in EVs as early as 2024.
And it’s not just any old automaker testing out these batteries. According to Green Car Congress, the companies testing StoreDot’s XFC batteries are leading companies from the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Early tests have already confirmed that the batteries can accept enough energy in just five minutes to provide 100 miles of driving range.
But that’s not all — StoreDot has also guaranteed that the pouch cells can handle 1,000 extreme fast-charging sessions with no battery degradation. In initial testing, it was also confirmed that the XFC batteries lead the sector in energy density at 300 Wh/kg.
StoreDot is planning to get that charging time down to three minutes by 2028 and two minutes by 2032.
Multiple global automotive manufacturers have already invested in StoreDot, including Daimler, Ola Electric, Polestar, VinFast, and Volvo.
