If the word “Segway” still conjures up images of tour guides and mall cops, you might just be missing out on some great e-mobility rides.
Beijing-based Ninebot acquired the Segway brand back in 2015. Since then, the name Segway has expanded to include all sorts of personal transportation devices like scooters, go-karts, and dirt bikes. Now, Segway-Ninebot has announced a slew of new products for the Chinese market, including a compact sit-down scooter that’s small enough to fold up and fit in the back of a car.
It Gets Really, Really Small
Dubbed the UiFi, this scooter has a larger battery compartment at its base compared to other Nineway-built scooters, though even with the addition of a low seat it still has the same general shape as your normal kick scooter.
It’s just 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) long, making it one of the smallest sit-down scooters on the market. It also weighs only 33 kg (72.75 lbs), which makes it easier to maneuver.
When it comes to power, it offers three-speed power adjustment, reaching a maximum speed of 32 km/h (19.9 mph). Ninebot also claims that the UiFi can go up to 45 km (28 miles) on a single charge. For safety features, the scooter has e-ABS and a one-button cruise control system.
The Segway-Ninebot UiFi will retail for ¥2,999 (a little under $450), making this pretty darn affordable for a cute little commuter scooter that’ll also give your legs a break.
