OKAI Launches its First Consumer E-bike

E-mobility company OKAI has taken its first steps into the consumer e-bike market with the launch of the new OKAI Stride EB40 featuring a removable quick-swap battery, a specialized smartphone app, and a raft of high-end bike components at a surprising price.

OKAI is best known in the industry as a supplier to electric kick-scooter rental companies like Lime and Bird, so you might have already sampled OKAI’s products without realizing it. With this new e-bike, the company is showing off some of that manufacturing prowess by delivering what looks like a high-quality product for “just” $1,599.

For that money, you get a full-color LCD “dashboard” cleverly integrated into the bike’s headset cap, a 48V/460.8Wh li-ion battery from LG that’s fully removable for a quick indoor charge or hot-swapping on longer rides/at the end of a delivery shift, and a Shimano 105 gear system that helps channel both your pedal power and power from the 750W electric motor to that rear wheel. All told, the package is good for a 28 mph top speed and an electric range of about 40 miles.

You also get access to some clever OKAI technology like NFC locking and the OKAI app, which includes a smart lock, ride mode adjustment, and real-time bike location. For long-term performance, the app also runs bike diagnostics, logs rides, adjust light settings, and tracks every ride.

You can get a sense of how it all comes together in the official OKAI promo video, below, then let us know what you think of the companies first attempt at a consumer-focused product in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
