LiveWire’s US Pricing and Europe Launch for S2 Del Mar

S2 Del Mar

LiveWire, the spun-off brand from Harley-Davidson, is about to unleash their second electric motorcycle, the S2 Del Mar. It’s lighter and less expensive than the original LiveWire One, which weighs in at over 550 lbs and starts at $22,799. The S2 Del Mar starts at $15,499 and will likely weigh 431 lbs.

Production models are coming, and LiveWire estimates that the bike will have a 110-mile range (depending on speed, etc.), 184 lb-ft of torque, and 0-60 mph time will be 3.1 seconds. Level 2 charging will take 75 minutes to go from 20 to 80%. By contrast, the LiveWire One offers DC fast charging that can go 0-100% in one hour.

Though the bike is still rather expensive, it’s closer to competing with Zero Motorcycles’ lower-end bikes, like the $13,000 FXE or S models. It would be worth the extra money to have DC fast-charging capabilities, though. Riding for an hour or two, then having to have a long lunch while charging, then an hour or two ride back may not be for everyone. But as a commuter in a city, it’s definitely feasible to have fun riding it to work, charging it there, and riding it home.

EASY

Electric motorcycles are simpler than their ICE counterparts, with less maintenance and easier to ride for beginners, as they lack a clutch and gearbox. They’re also quieter but at the same time accelerate faster. Most electric motorcycles have an Eco mode that both saves the battery and offers a more mellow acceleration curve.
