Electric cars are changing the conversation when it comes to who could win in a drag race. It’s especially wild when a Kia, of all brands, can give a Lambo a run for its money.
The team over at Carwow decided to drag race a Kia EV6 GT against a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, and it was a revelatory experience. The Kia absolutely ripped ahead at first with its instant torque, but the Lambo eventually caught up and won the race.
You’d think that the extra weight of an EV would hold it back in a drag race, but that sure didn’t seem to matter at the launch. The Kia EV6 GT actually has more torque than the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, with the two electric motors creating 546 lb-ft of torque compared to the Italian supercar’s 532 lb-ft. Admittedly, the Aventador does have more horsepower (759 hp vs. “only” 577 horsepower in the Kia).
In a second race, Mat Watson sneaked in an Audi RS E-Tron GT instead of the Kia, and the Aventador still pulled off the win in the end.
Overall, the lesson from this whole experiment was that the Aventador SVJ completed a quart mile in 10.9 second and the Kia EV6 GT was only one second slower at 11.9 seconds. Yes, a Kia is now just one second slower than a Lamborghini. What a world.
