Itselectric introduces the Brooklyn-718, the first EV charger with a detachable charging cable certified under UL Standards. This milestone not only advances EV charging but also tackles key concerns of accessibility, reliability, and future-proofing.

The Brooklyn-718 marks a turning point in the quest for accessible EV charging solutions, especially for millions of drivers who park their electric vehicles on the street. Itselectric’s objective with this charger is to boost EV adoption by providing communities with scalable and simple curbside charging options that seamlessly integrate into their neighborhoods.

Nathan King, Co-Founder and CEO of itselectric, spotlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring equitable charging access for all drivers, especially those in dense urban areas with limited access to public charging. He stated, “The Brooklyn-718 is the first EV charger with a detachable charging cable to meet the rigorous safety tests required by UL Standards, providing cities across the U.S. an immediately deployable solution to meet their on-street charging needs.”

One of the key advantages of the detachable EV chargingcable model lies in its ability to mitigate common frustrations experienced by EV drivers, such as limited access to public charging and the inconvenience of faulty or vandalized cables. By allowing drivers to stow the charging cable in their vehicles when not in use, itselectric’s design ensures charger uptime and enhances overall reliability.

The detachable cord configuration enables itselectric to future-proof its chargers, avoiding the installation of stranded assets as the automotive industry transitions to the J3400 (also known as the Tesla or NACS connector) from the widely used J1772 standard. This adaptability ensures that itselectric’s chargers remain compatible with evolving vehicle technologies, providing drivers with a seamless charging experience.

Ed Gilchrest, President of Gyre9, itselectric’s engineering and manufacturing partner, expressed pride in the company’s achievement, stating, “itselectric has received a significant certification, validating them as a leader in making EV charging accessible. We’re proud to have partnered with them and look forward to continued collaboration on their next breakthrough product.”

The collaboration between itselectric and Gyre9 symbolizes a shared commitment to developing innovation and unwavering dedication to safety within the EV charging sector. Todd Molica, a representative for TÜV Rhineland, congratulated itselectric and Gyre9 for achieving the TUV Rheinland NRTL certification mark, reinforcing the collective dedication to advancing safety standards in EV charging technology.

itselectric has installed seven pre-production EV chargers in Brooklyn and Detroit, signaling its lead in EV charging infrastructure nationwide. Teaming up with Gyre9, the full-scale production of the Brooklyn-718 is scheduled for delivery and deployment in 2024, promising accessible, reliable, and future-proofed EV charging solutions.
