What’s stopping you from getting an electric vehicle? Is it the lingering “What if I can’t find a charging station?” worry? Well, ChargePoint and General Motors (GM) just dropped some news that might put your mind at ease. They’re collaborating to roll out up to 500 ultra-fast charging stations across the U.S., strategically located to serve EV drivers without the stress of hunting for a reliable charger.

By 2025, these new charging stations, branded under GM Energy, will be open to the public, featuring ChargePoint’s Omni Port system. The Omni Port removes the hassle of adapters and makes exclusive parking spaces for specific connectors unnecessary. With compatibility for both CCS and NACS, these chargers are designed to work seamlessly with a wide range of EVs, offering practical convenience for all drivers.

GM and ChargePoint Expand Fast EV Charging Network

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, stated, “The transition to electric mobility continues to be driven by leaders such as General Motors offering innovative EVs and committing to make chargers as ubiquitous as possible.”

He went on to explain that the collaboration ensures “fast and easy charging for all,” using ChargePoint’s industry-leading software to deliver a reliable experience.

Wade Sheffer, GM Energy Vice President, highlighted how this initiative helps make EV ownership more accessible by addressing common challenges and providing practical solutions for drivers.

“Today, GM drivers have access to hundreds of thousands of places to charge,” he said. “This collaboration with ChargePoint adds even more reliable, accessible, and convenient charging experiences. With ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology, and excellent customer experiences, this collaboration should be another reason why EV drivers and the EV-curious should be excited.”

Faster EV Charging with Broader Accessibility

The highlight here is ChargePoint’s Express Plus platform, capable of delivering charging speeds up to 500 kW. That’s enough to give your EV a meaningful range boost in the time it takes to grab a coffee. Whether you’re driving a Chevy Bolt EV, Chevy Bolt EUV, Equinox EV, Blazer EV or Silverado EV, these chargers are designed to meet your needs quickly and efficiently.

One key aspect is the program designed to motivate third-party charge point operators (CPOs) to take ownership and manage EV charging stations. This approach helps expand the network of fast chargers across the country more quickly.

Making EV Charging Simple and Accessible Everywhere

EV ownership should feel easy. Whether you’re running errands or planning a cross-country road trip, worrying about where to charge shouldn’t factor into your day. These upcoming ChargePoint charging stations are meant to solve that problem by making fast, reliable charging accessible in more places. And with the ChargePoint app, you’ll know exactly where to go for your next charge.

For those already using ChargePoint chargers, this expansion means you’ll have even more options to charge your vehicle on a trusted network. Plus, the Omni Port system ensures compatibility across a wide range of EVs, removing one more hurdle from the EV experience.

So, what’s the next step for you? If you’ve been considering going electric, now is a great time to learn more. Download the ChargePoint app, explore vehicles that use CCS or NACS connectors, and watch for these new charging stations arriving by 2025.

As Rick Wilmer explained, this initiative focuses on making EV charging smooth and dependable. With ChargePoint and GM teaming up, owning and driving an EV becomes more practical and less complicated.
