Enhancing EV Accessibility: SK Signet Introduces NACS Chargers

Enhancing EV Accessibility SK Signet Introduces NACS Chargers
  • SK Signet is incorporating North American Charging Standard (NACS) connections into their ultra-fast EV chargers, enhancing accessibility for EV owners.
  • SK Signet’s chargers support multiple widely used standards, including NACS, Combined Charging System (CCS), CHAdeMO, and Megawatt Charging System (MCS), ensuring compatibility with over 40 EV models in North America.
  • SK Signet’s upcoming V2 charger boasts a maximum output of 400 kW hours, enabling EVs to reach an 80% charge in less than 15 minutes.

Exciting news in the world of electric vehicles! SK Signet, a leading global provider of EV charging solutions, has just announced a game-changing addition to its ultra-fast chargers. They are incorporating North American Charging Standard (NACS) connection capabilities into their product design, set to release a compliant charger in 2023. This development is set to enhance accessibility for more EV owners, making charging their vehicles a breeze.

With the rise in EV adoption, the need for seamless charging experiences has become more apparent. According to the CEO Jung Ho Shin, “Americans are moving to EVs in record numbers, but the market is still evolving to create a seamless charging experience for EV owners.” They understand this need and is committed to providing flexible charging solutions to make recharging EVs faster and easier, regardless of the model.

NACS Connections for Enhanced Accessibility

This move is a testament to their commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. By adding NACS connections to their ultra-fast chargers, they are catering to EV owners who already use the Tesla charging connector, previously known as NACS. EV owners using SK Signet chargers can now enjoy enhanced accessibility without the need for adapters, streamlining their charging experience.

But that’s not all! SK Signet remains dedicated to offering a wide range of charging options. Alongside NACS, their chargers also support widely used standards such as Combined Charging System (CCS), CHAdeMO, and Megawatt Charging System (MCS). With these options, SK Signet ensures compatibility with over 40 EV models available in North America.

Manufacturing Excellence and Expansion

The chargers themselves are a marvel of engineering. SK Signet is renowned for its fast and ultra-fast charging solutions, boasting the first UL-certified ultra-fast charger (350 kW) in the U.S. To meet the growing demand, the company recently opened its first U.S. manufacturing center in Plano, Texas. At full capacity, the facility will produce over 10,000 ultra-fast chargers annually. This expansion will significantly contribute to the build-out of a robust U.S. charging network, providing EV owners with the convenience they deserve. In the coming months, SK Signet will begin making the V2 charger. It can deliver up to 400 kilowatt-hours of power, which is sufficient to charge an EV up to 80% in under 15 minutes.

Seung-June Oh, President of SK Signet America, emphasizes their commitment to meeting the diverse needs of EV owners, stating, “SK Signet is working closely with our customers and other business partners to develop new solutions that meet the wide range of needs for EV owners in the U.S.” This dedication to collaboration and innovation ensures that SK Signet remains at the forefront of the EV charging industry.

SK Signet’s chargers offer incredible versatility. Current models feature either two connectors, both CCS or one CCS and one CHAdeMO. However, future chargers will allow for the installation of NACS couplers upon customer request. This means a single charger will be capable of simultaneously charging EVs using NACS and CCS standards, optimizing charging station efficiency.
