- Blink will install several Level 2 chargers with 18-foot cables at the LEED-certified NFL stadium.
- The partnership will add more much-needed EV charging stops in busy Las Vegas.
- The stations will be open 24 hours per day, seven days per week for anyone who needs a quick battery fill-up.
After the big focus recently on Allegiant Stadium for the Big Game last Sunday, the Las Vegas football stadium can show off another super accomplishment: earning a LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Along with a growing list of other professional sports stadiums, Allegiant Stadium has proven to be an innovative, green, and efficient stadium.
In October 2023, the stadium became the first to be powered by renewable energy. It will soon debut more eco-friendly features, as Blink EV charging and Allegiant Stadium have announced a new partnership.
Details About the New Blink EV Charging Stations
Blink will be the official EV charging provider for Allegiant Stadium, and the partnership will create more public charging options for visitors to the growing area. The chargers will be open all day and night, just like the casinos that create the Las Vegas skyline. EV drivers can use the new charging stations when they attend a Raiders game, rock out at a concert, or shop at nearby Raider Image. They can also use the Blink stations when they need a quick battery fill-up.
The Blink charging stations will include the Series 8 Plus charging station that uses a Level 2 80-amp charger. Drivers can use an RFID card, a mobile app, or a credit card for speedy and convenient payment. Each changing station will have an 18-foot cable to reach charging ports on all EVs. For most EVs, the Blink Series 8 Plus Level 2 chargers will add about 65 miles of range in an hour of charging. Considering the typical household Level 2 charger uses 40 amps, the 80-amp Blink chargers are quite speedy. They will deliver up to 19.2 kW.
Use the Chargeway App to Find Charging in Las Vegas
After a recent check on the Chargeway app, it appears the Blink stations have not yet been installed. The nearest Tesla SuperChargers are south of the stadium at Town Square Las Vegas and the Las Vegas South Premium Outlets, which is also the location of the nearest Electrify America DC fast charging station.
Mike Battaglia, the COO of Blink Charging said, “Allegiant Stadium and the Las Vegas Raiders are at the forefront of sustainability, and we’re proud to be chosen as the official charging provider for the stadium.”
Raiders VP of Stadium Operations Christopher Sotiropulos said about the partnership, “Our organization’s record on sustainability and renewable energy speaks for itself, and we feel more than confident putting our trust in Blink’s know-how and expertise to provide fans and guests a seamless EV charging experience when visiting Allegiant Stadium.”
Additional LEED Stadiums With and Without On-Site EV Charging
A few other LEED-certified NFL stadiums include:
- Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta
- Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
- Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia
- U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis
- Soldier Field in Chicago
- M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore
Of these stadiums, Lincoln Financial Field and the U.S. Bank Stadium do not have EV chargers within the Allegiant Stadium parking ramps and lots. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the highest-rated LEED stadium in the nation, and U.S. Bank Stadium is in a close second.
Since 2008, approximately 25% of all professional sports stadiums in the United States have some level of LEED certification. These stadiums host baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and tennis.
Stadiums earn LEED certification by scoring enough points through development, construction, and operations in seven categories. They include impact on climate change, human health, water resources, the “green economy,” the local community, and natural resources. Having EV chargers within the stadium’s parking boundaries can push stadiums into higher LEED certification levels.
