The Electrify Race League (ERL) continues to wow electric skateboarding fans, and the recent stop in San Francisco didn’t disappoint. Now at the midpoint of the championship series, riders are pushing hard to earn those crucial points that could change the rankings with each lap. At Electrify Expo at Alameda Point, the event brought high-speed thrills and heart-stopping moments that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

Jimmy Tran’s Home Advantage

For Jimmy Tran, this race was more than just another event. It was a chance to prove himself on his own turf. “This is my hometown, this is my home track,” he said with pride. Racing against the stunning backdrop of the San Francisco skyline and battleships only added to his determination. But even with his local knowledge, Jimmy had tough competition from top riders like Mario Chacon and Reggie Thomas, who were all vying for the top spots.

The Points Race Heats Up

The San Francisco event was a pivotal moment in the championship. With the riders’ standings so tight, just one race could take someone from the middle of the pack to being a top contender. The pressure was intense.

“We are doing a national championship series where we are combining the points for each stop but only taking the best two,” Alex Mock, ERL Series Director explained. “This stop is so important because it can either excel your position in the championship or maintain it.” For Mario, currently leading the series, this weekend was all about staying on top. Meanwhile, Johnny Mooney, Tucker Johnson, and Jimmy Tran were battling for that third-place spot on the overall podium, with just one point separating them.

Qualifying Drama and High Stakes

Qualifying saw speeds approaching 40 mph on the demanding high-speed track. Reggie Thomas, known for his skill on fast circuits, looked set to take the provisional pole with an impressive 25.0-second lap. However, Mario Chacon, who had been competing closely with Reggie all season, edged him out with a stunning 25.1-second lap, just six-thousandths of a second faster, clinching the pole position. “It doesn’t get any better than that,” mentioned one of the commentators. “That’s the close race we want to see here.”

Unpredictable Crashes and Gritty Comebacks

The main event was full of ups and downs. Tucker Johnson and Reggie Thomas were battling for the lead when a crash sent both Jimmy Tran and Hudson Tsang tumbling. “I had one foot on the board and just took off like a rocket,” Tsang recalled. “I’m keeping that second place—you’re not getting me!”

The chaos didn’t stop there. Tucker Johnson took advantage of the confusion to grab the lead, but Mario Chacon fought his way from the back of the pack to claim second place. He eventually took the win with a decisive move through lap traffic. “Mario punishes people for making any little mistake,” Jack Farah said. “He’s not just leading the pack—he’s soaring to near unreachable heights in the point standings.”

Day Two: A Race of Attrition

Day two was even more intense. Reggie Thomas, who suffered a hard fall and cracked his helmet, tried to push through qualifying but had to step down due to a suspected concussion. With Reggie out, Tucker Johnson took advantage of the opportunity, finishing third overall and climbing to third place in the championship standings. Despite the challenges of day one, riders approached the reverse track with a renewed sense of respect.

“You kind of have a symbiotic relationship with your board,” Johnny Mooney noted. “You have to fully trust that thing to propel you and brake you in every sense of the word. If it doesn’t, your momentum is going to carry you into the ground real fast.”

The Championship Battle Continues

The stakes could not be higher as the series heads to New York for an East Coast-West Coast showdown. Mario Chacon’s dominance has lit a fire under his competitors, pushing them to dig deeper and race harder. “Everyone wants to be on top,” said Jimmy Tran. “If Mario’s up there, a lot of respect to the guy, but no one gets better if you’re just holding yourself back. You want to break through that ceiling.”

But it won’t be a walk in the park for Mario in New York. His biggest rival, Morgan Brady, a three-time race winner, is expected to join the competition. There’s one person that Mario hasn’t beaten. Morgan Brady plans to make it to the New York race. Will Mario finally outrace his greatest challenger?

A Gritty Pursuit for Glory

The Electrify Race League is more intense and exciting than ever. As the season progresses, the fight for the championship is turning into a fierce showdown. Every rider, whether a seasoned pro or an up-and-coming talent, knows that even the smallest mistake could cost them everything. With the title at stake, they’re racing for victory and a place in the sport’s history.
