North America’s largest electric vehicle festival went to Long Island, NY this past weekend, and brought plenty of EV eye candy!
“It’s a magical moment when people arrive,” BJ Birtwell, founder of Electrify Expo, told Forbes ahead of the opening of the Long Island event. Held at the Nassau Coliseum, the event saw thousands of New Yorkers come out to not just see the latest electric vehicles from the hottest electric car, bicycle, and motorcycle brands — but actually experience these forward-looking vehicles with meaningful seat time along Electrify Expo’s ride and drive courses.
That ability to get up close and personal with these new cars — some of them, like the new electric BMW 7 series and upcoming Toyota Crown HYBRID MAX, making their first public show appearances in North America — makes the Electrify Expo feel noticeably different than traditional auto shows. “The excitement in the crowd and the sheer amount of gear at the Seattle event, which I attended July 23-24, reminded me of a rock concert,” wrote Forbes contributor, Josh Max. And he’s not alone!
Newsday interviewed a young lady named Jasmin Jackson, 22, of the Bronx, at the event, where she said that enjoyed trying out the various different e-bikes on the track, and that the experience meant she would now consider purchasing one for herself. “It was really fun, just being able to experience different bikes, and seeing how fast they go, how slow they go, and knowing they have different things for everyone,” she said. “Just to be able to not destroy the environment, I would rather go electric.”
