More and more states are passing zero-emission mandates, and California is leading the way with a halt on new gas car sales.
Hot on the heels of President Biden signing the Inflation Reduction Act into law, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved a new rule that will require 100% of all new vehicles sold to the public to be “zero emission vehicles” starting in 2035. It’s part of CARB’s latest push to speed up the general public’s transition to electric vehicles.
California is the biggest new-car market in America– it’s bigger than some countries, in fact– so it should come as no surprise, then, that other so-called “CARB” states (states like Connecticut, Delaware, and New Jersey that have, historically, adopted California’s emission standards), are following suit.
“As interest in clean transportation technology grows, it is important that we give consumers the resources they need to gain access to clean transportation technologies,” says Dylan Jaff, a policy analyst at Consumer Reports. “This common-sense rule is a critical tool to bring an increased array of zero-emission vehicle options to California consumers, increasing their ability to reduce their carbon footprint. As other states choose to adopt the rule, they will also see a greater variety of clean vehicle options for consumers, ranging in affordability and vehicle class.”
Experience Drives Adoption

“The market was already feeling the swing of momentum with more and more people showing an interest in EVs,” says BJ Birtwell, founder of Electrify Expo, North America’s largest electric vehicle festival. “But now that states are taking that step of mandating EV sales that momentum has only increased. That ‘curiosity factor’ makes our role at Electrify Expo even more important in helping people experience these vehicles and prepare them for that transition to electric vehicles.”
The best part of those shows, speaking for Electrify News, is the smiles from everyone who experiences that electric smoothness and acceleration– but don’t take our word for it, head out to Nassau Coliseum in New York this weekend for the next stop in the Electrify Expo’s Summer 2022 tour and experience the hottest new EVs from the biggest brands in the business.
We promise– you’re going to love the EVs you drive!
