The Chinese market is full of “cute” EVs, and the compact, off-roady Baojun Yep is the newest cute-ute of them all!
Also known as the “Urban Fun Trendy SUV,” the Yep (called Yu-eh Yeh in China) is a super-compact SUV with a boxy body that comes in brilliant colors, big black bumpers, and sporty alloy wheels with colored brake calipers at the front. With a design that aims to appeal to young city dwellers who enjoy camping, the Yep is positioned slightly higher than the Wuling brand, which is best known for the Mini EV.
The Baojun Yep has a single electric motor at the rear, which is a permanent magnet synchronous drive motor with a maximum power of 68 horsepower (50 kW) and a peak torque of 140 Nm. The vehicle has a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 303 km (188 miles) with its lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) battery.
The Yep is a four-seat car with a curb weight of 1006 kilos (2218 lbs), and because it’s super compact, the rear seats are really only suitable for kids or pets. The Baojun Yep’s public debut is scheduled for the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show next month, and it will be launched on the Chinese car market in May. There are rumors that Baojun is developing a five-door version, but this has yet to be confirmed.
