GM plans to revitalize the Buick brand with an all-new flagship EV that’s loaded with a sweeping, panoramic dash screen!
Is it a dash or is it a TV at this rate? Buick’s new Chinese-market EV, the Electra E5, comes with a ton of splashy features, including a whopping 30-inch curved 6K OLED display.
Would you actually need a screen like this in your car? Maybe not, but it’s impossible to ignore how futuristic Buick wants this model to feel, especially since it also has a 12.6-inch head-up display, tons of ambient lighting throughout the interior, and an option to choose from 121 different colors to set the mood just right.
Other technology that’s jam-packed into the Buick Electra E5 includes 5G capability, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging. You can get your over-the-air updates via the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The latest Buick eConnect connectivity system is also on board, which enables voice commands, customized configurations, and individualized recommendations.
Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised at Buick going whole-hog on a big touchscreen — Buick had the first touchscreen back in 1986 in the Riviera, after all.
What’s more, the Electra E5 is built on General Motors’ new Ultium architecture, making it Buick’s first EV to do so. And although it’s similar in size to the Chevrolet Equinox EV, it’s 2.2 inches longer, giving passengers a little more space to stretch out.
Although the powertrain information hasn’t been officially released, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shared late last year that the crossover would have a single-motor setup pushing out 241 hp (180 kW). We may also see a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive option, but we’ll have to wait for the official word on that.
