  • BorgWarner partners exclusively with FinDreams Battery to localize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs for commercial vehicles in key regions globally for eight years.
  • BorgWarner gains access to FinDreams Battery’s blade cells and IP for pack design and manufacturing.
  • CEO Frédéric Lissalde underscores the significance of the partnership in advancing LFP battery technology for commercial vehicles.

BorgWarner has announced a partnership with FinDreams Battery, a subsidiary of BYD Company Limited – a collaboration signifies a major advancement in the progression of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology specifically designed for commercial vehicles. This strategic relationship positions BorgWarner as the sole non-OEM localized manufacturer outside of FinDreams Battery’s affiliation, granting exclusive rights to localize LFP battery packs utilizing FinDreams Battery’s innovative blade cells. This collaboration extends across Europe, the Americas, and select regions of the Asia Pacific, promising to transform the way electric vehicle (EV) propulsion systems operate in the coming eight years.

Under this agreement, BorgWarner gains access to state-of-the-art blade cells for manufacturing LFP battery packs in the covered geographies. Additionally, the company secures a license from FinDreams Battery, enabling the usage of FinDreams Battery’s intellectual property concerning battery pack design and manufacturing processes.

Frédéric Lissalde, President and CEO of BorgWarner, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry is an exciting technology that is becoming increasingly important globally due to its cost competitiveness. We have seen increased demand from our customers for packs with LFP cells. We believe FinDreams Battery is right for BorgWarner in this area, with its 20-plus years of experience and success in LFP batteries for the mobility sector across China and Europe. We are excited to work together to develop cutting-edge cell and battery pack technology to further electrify this market segment.”

This sentiment was echoed by Micheal He, President and CEO of FinDreams Battery, who highlighted the strategic advantage of the collaboration amidst geopolitical complications and the starting point of lithium iron phosphate electrification for overseas commercial vehicles. He commented, “The overseas localization cooperation with BorgWarner on battery packs using FDB blade cells in the territory takes the advantages of each other’s strengths, provides diversified and flexible options for overseas customers, and also offers extra access to localized battery packs using FDB blade cells for overseas customers. Devoted to the vision of ‘let people use batteries carefree,’ FDB will cooperate with BorgWarner to make joint efforts for the speedy electrification of the overseas commercial vehicle market.”
