  • The BMW i4 is available in four trim levels within the BMW 4 Series lineup, each offering different power configurations.
  • The eDrive40 model provides around 301 miles per charge, and the xDrive40 variant offers about 307 miles.
  • BMW continues to electrify its lineup while still delivering an exhilarating “Ultimate Driving Machine” experience.

BMW continues to deliver exceptional electric vehicles like the BMW i4, and now the automaker has proudly announced updates to the iconic 4 Series electric and hybrid-electric vehicle sedans. For 2025, BMW is adding bold, new exterior features along with new interior technology.

The updated features will appear across the 4 Series sedan lineup, including the gas-powered BMW 4 Gran Coupe and M440i, which are available with a 48V mild hybrid powertrain system. BMW continues to set trends in electrified transportation, delivering exceptional range and fuel efficiency without giving up the “Ultimate Driving Machine” driving experience.

New Exterior Features

The new exterior features in the electrified BMW 4 Series include several new exterior paint and light-alloy wheel combinations. These new colors show off the newly designed headlights and rear lights, which feature available laser-lit accents.

BMW offers the 4 Series models in traditional color choices including new Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red metallic. These bold colors draw attention to the sporty and luxurious styling of the luxury compact vehicles. BMW also offers new 19-inch M Aero bi-color wheels on models with the optional M Sport Package. The automaker also has new 20-inch BMW Individual Aero bi-color wheels with double-spoke design, which are available on the M440i and 430i models outfitted with the M Sport Package.

Along with the new colors and wheel choices, BMW has added slim headlights and a vertically oriented kidney grille to give the 4 Series a more aggressive stance. The automaker continues to make the kidney grille the central focus of the front fascia, giving no doubt that the vehicle is designed by the legendary BMW engineering team. Regardless of paint color, the kidney grille has a matte chrome finish.

The BMW i4 features an electric drive system with lower cooling requirements, so the kidney grille is closed on the upper section. The lower section of the electric i4 has a black high-gloss surface with matte silver in a honeycomb pattern. The models with the mild-hybrid and a combustion engine have a mesh structure in matte Quartz Silver.

BMW also increased the size of the side air intakes and the front apron. The BMW i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe have a diffuser in the rear bumper. Engineers also increased the diameter of the dual-exhaust tailpipes so they now measure 4 inches.

Upgraded High-Tech Lighting Features

The 4 Series headlights are composed of a single LED module that handles the low beams and high beams. The new slim shape gives a tiger-like look to the front end, and the arrow-shaped LEDs point toward the attractive front kidney grille. The headlights run through a Welcome Light sequence when the driver and key come within 10 feet of the vehicle.

Some models feature new Laserlight taillights that use a laser diode and a fiber optic bundle to show off a unique light graphic.

Mild Hybrid Power

The 2024 M440i Gran Coupe comes with a 48V mild hybrid technology paired with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. The mild-hybrid technology adds extra horsepower, so the M440i Gran Coupe delivers 386 horsepower and 398-lb-ft of torque.

The 430i Gran Coupe comes with a similar engine arrangement. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with a 48V mild hybrid system to deliver 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The Fully Electric BMW i4 in Four Trims

The i4 BMW is available in four trim levels, outfitted with either one or two electric motors. The eDrive35 has a single motor, rear-wheel drive, and 282 horsepower. The eDrive40 has the same configuration, but the vehicle is tuned to deliver 335 horsepower. The i4 electric xDrive40 has all-wheel drive, 396 horsepower, and 443 lb-ft of instant torque. For more power, drivers can choose the M50 with two electric motors, all-wheel drive, 536 horsepower, and 586 lb-ft of torque.

With a full battery, the BMW i4 eDrive40 gets about 301 miles of range, while the BMW i4 xDrive40 has a range of about 307 miles. The zippy M50 trim maxes out at about 245 miles of range. All models come with an 83.4-kWh battery.

BMW offers a Plug & Charge Multi Contract option where drivers can use a variety of public charging systems for their electric cars without needing to login through a smartphone app. With Plug & Charge, the BMW i4 identifies itself through a technical interface, so drivers are automatically billed for their charging system. Drivers can choose five charging companies — like Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, Shell Recharge, and more.
