The RZ 450e Features DIRECT4, a Powerful All-Wheel Drive System

The DIRECT4 system is integrated into the RZ 450e. This innovative system features a rear eAxle that works in harmony with the engine and front motor. The DIRECT4 utilizes two high-output, high-torque eAxle units, each powering a wheelset. The front unit has a 150-kW output, while the rear unit puts out 80-kW. The eAxle units are mounted at three points, each using a lightweight aluminum bracket, placed symmetrically on each side to balance the torque generated by the eAxle. The front-to-rear torque distribution of the DIRECT4 system can range from 100:0 to 0:100, adapting fluidly to the specific driving scenario.

The Lexus RZ 450e’s 71.4 kWh battery, developed by Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES), bolsters the vehicle’s performance credentials with a total system horsepower rating of 308 and a 0-60 acceleration time of just 5.0 seconds.
