Meet the MINI Aceman Concept

MINI calls the first all-electric crossover model in its lineup “an electric go-kart,” pushing the brand in a new, funky direction.

MINI unveiled this concept EV to fill the gap between the MINI Cooper and the MINI Countryman SUV. And while it definitely maintains the MINI “feel,” the Aceman features a ton of deviations from the traditional MINI formula.

For one, the whole vehicle takes on a more angular design language, like an octagonal LED light bar framing the closed-off grille and polygonal headlights instead of the classic circular ones. It’s also done away with chrome on the exterior and gets its character from the flared fenders, bold geometric wheels, and Union Jack roof rack. Overall, it gives off an “electrified go-kart feel” according to Stefanie Wurst, Head of the MINI Brand.

The interior is a visual explosion, from the colorfully designed fabric on the seats (made from recycled polyester) to the fabric-covered dashboard that acts as a projection screen to extend the circular OLED center display. The driver can choose from different “experience modes” to create three different vibes along the dash as part of the Aceman’s “immersive digital experience.” Pop-up mode shows navigation points of interest, while vivid mode projects letter-based graphics during charging breaks and traffic stops. Meanwhile, personal mode lets the driver upload a personal image theme.

To try to make this all feel friendly and approachable, MINI has added greetings like having the right headlight give anyone who approaches the vehicle a wink, and the center display reads “Hey Friend” with a burst of color when you enter.

Besides the blitz of light and tech, the Aceman does have some other neat features, like a modular center console. This allows the diver to reposition storage compartments, cupholders, and a wireless charging station for better personalization and comfort.

The Concept Aceman will get its official public debut at gamescom 2022 in Cologne later this month. Until then, take a look at the pictures, below, and let us know what you think of MINI’s electric go-kart in the comments.
