In a significant step toward sustainable transport, the Lion Electric Company has proudly begun the delivery of the LionD electric school buses to customers in California. Moreover, its robust battery system assures a robust range of up to 155 miles on a single charge.

LionD Focuses on Everyone’s Safety

With each LionD school bus that rolls into service, schools can estimate the elimination of approximately 23 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Moves like this continue the electric school bus initiative jump-started by the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program.

An extra-wide center aisle streamlines the entry and exit process. The driver has enhanced rearward visibility, a critical feature that aids monitoring the children who are on the bus. Additionally, the bus is outfitted with a programmable low-speed sound generator, a feature that alerts pedestrians of its presence (since electric vehicles otherwise run very quiet).

The front windshield of the LionD is optimized to extend the driver’s visibility, especially when it comes to cross-traffic and students walking or running in front of the vehicle. Adding to the safety-focused design is an ergonomically sculpted driver cockpit that prioritizes the driver’s comfort and control, which are essential factors for safe driving practices.

New LionD Buses Are High-Tech, Too

The LionD bus stands as the inaugural Lion model to incorporate the company’s driver-centric cockpit, complete with a state-of-the-art liquid crystal display interface that intricately manages the nuances of electric operational performance.

Purpose-built for electric mobility, LionD electric school buses bring to the table unparalleled efficiencies and sustainability in the realm of school transportation. The bus is engineered with an all-electric powertrain at its core, which not only reduces energy costs but also substantially lowers maintenance expenses when juxtaposed with conventional diesel-powered buses.

The LionD electric school bus boasts corrosion-resistant composite on the body panels, staircase, and battery compartment. These features, along with a modular lower skirt and an impeccably designed one-piece seamless fiberglass roof, eliminate the need for countless rivets and mitigate leak risks, saving on maintenance and keeping these buses running more often.
