KIA America Shines with Tenth Consecutive Monthly Sales Growth

  • The Kia Seltos sales increased by 171 percent compared to May 2022.

  • The Kia EV6 was named the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
  • In May 2023, Kia Motors saw an overall sales increase of 23 percent compared to May 2022. 
  • Two-thirds of Kia vehicles sold in the United States are SUVs. 

The exciting new Kia lineup is helping Kia Motors continue its hot streak into its tenth consecutive month. The automaker announced that its 2023 May sales were up 23 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Kia Motors manufactures models with fuel-efficient powertrains, intuitive infotainment systems, and attractive, sporty styling. With many models seeing total redesigns in 2022 and 2023, drivers are flocking to these eye-catching, reliable, and safe vehicles. 


Record-Setting Sales Increases

Along with continued increases in overall sales, several Kia America models saw double- and triple-digit sales increases. They include

  • Kia Seltos (+171 percent)
  • Kia Stinger (+102 percent)
  • Kia Carnival (+80 percent)
  • Kia Soul (+45 percent)

Additional models with double-digit sales increases include the Kia Telluride, Kia Sportage, and Kia Sorento. When these models arrive on dealership lots, they don’t last long – especially the lineup of Kia SUVs, as the sales have increased 35 percent from the previous year. SUVs account for 74 percent of Kia America sales. 

The top-selling Kia SUVs include the Sportage, Telluride, and Seltos. In May 2023, these three models sold a record-setting amount – topping previous records set in May 2021. The previous record-setting month for Kia Seltos was March 2021, and the May 2023 numbers bested them by 15 percent. 

Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations for Kia America said, “Kia continues to stir the market with cutting-edge design, innovative technology, advanced safety features, and proven reliability that customers demand.” He also reported that over two-thirds of Kia vehicles sold in the U.S. are SUVs.

Improving EV Sales

Kia also sells a growing collection of electric vehicles. Models like the Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6 saw a combined increase in sales of 33 percent compared to May 2022. These numbers bested the April 2023 numbers by four percent. The award-winning Kia EV6 saw a seven percent increase compared to May 2022 and an 80 percent increase compared to April 2023, and Kia chalks it up to the automaker’s competitive lease program


Return to the Electrify Expo

The 2023 Electrify Expo in Long Beach featured the Kia EV6, which was recently named the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. Visitors to the Electrify Expo were given the opportunity to drive the EV6 and get a good look at the Kia EV6 GT which was named the 2023 World Performance Car with its 576 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. 

The Kia Niro EV and all-new Kia EV9 three-row electric SUV debuted at the Electrify Expo in Long Beach. The Kia EV lineup will be on display at the Electrify Expo 2023 events in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Miami.

High Honors for the Kia Motors Lineup

Along with the honors given to the Kia EV6 and Kia EV6 GT, seven other Kia models received awards from Money magazine. The Carnival MPV, K5, Soul, Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Stinger, and Telluride earned recognition in the magazine’s “Best Autos of 2023” awards. These seven models were named “Best Overall and Best Value” in their industry categories. Almost all Kia models earned recognition from Money magazine. 

The redesigned 2023 Kia Sportage earned a spot in the Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX award thanks to its upscale interior, easy-to-use tech features, and comfortable seating.
