Genesis Electrified GV70 Earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

  • The Electrified GV70 earned “Good” ratings on the headlights across all trims.
  • The IIHS made the Top Safety Pick+ requirements more difficult to achieve, pushing automakers to improve safety features and headlights.
  • Genesis vehicles frequently earn top honors from the IIHS.

Genesis continues to dominate the safety ratings, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Electrified GV70 with the Top Safety Pick+ designation. The Electrified GV70 joins other Top Safety Pick+ models that include the GV60, GV70, and GV80 SUVs.

How to Earn Top Safety Pick+ Recognition

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts rigorous safety tests and inspections before awarding the Top Safety Pick+ rating. IIHS tests the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, updated side, and original moderate overlap front. Vehicles must earn a “Good” rating on all four tests.

The overlap tests involve testing 40 percent of the vehicle. During the test, the vehicle travels at 40 MPH and then hits a barrier. An adult-sized crash-test dummy sits in the front seat. After the tests, the dummy is evaluated for injuries. The dummy’s data regarding injuries determines whether the vehicle receives a “Good” rating.

Additional requirements include “Acceptable” or “Good” headlights in all trims and “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings for the front crash prevention system. The IIHS tests these features during the night and day, and they look for vehicle and pedestrian safety features.

Upgrading the Award Requirements

In 2023, the IIHS strengthened the requirements for the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards, so only 48 models qualified. The testing agency asked automakers to improve their pedestrian crash prevention systems and remove subpar headlights from their trims. In 2022, 101 vehicles earned the top designations.

The IIHS gave the Electrified GV70 “Advanced” ratings for the vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash evaluations during the day and night. The headlights in all trim levels received a “Good” rating.

Safety Features in the Electrified GV70

Genesis is dedicated to building vehicles with an Athletic Elegance. The luxurious vehicles come with a robust suite of driver-assistive and safety technology for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. These advanced features show up on the entry-level trims and extend into the upper-level models.

All Genesis models have features like Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist helps reduce collisions between other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, while Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist helps reduce the risk of impact when a vehicle is in the driver’s blind spot. These features use radar systems and cameras to assist drivers at all speeds and on all types of roads.

Additional safety features in the Electrified GV70 include eight airbags, a strong platform that relies on rigid, high-strength, reinforced steel, and Genesis Connected Services.

Drivers can rely on Connected Services and Connected Care for emergency assistance when the Automatic Collision Notification is activated. Drivers appreciate the SOS Emergency Assistance and the Enhanced Roadside Assistance that use a cellular network connection to alert roadside assistance when an emergency occurs.
