Not to be outdone by Lordstown Motors’ Lazarus routine, Fisker says they’re still kicking, too — and they’ve built 95 EVs!
Fisker announced that its first batch of 95, all-electric electric Ocean SUVs began rolling down the Magna Steyr assembly line in Austria this week — which, if true, feels like a significant milestone for the fledgling car brand.
For their part, Automotive super-supplier Magna builds everything from dashboards to mirrors and could even be called a carmaker in its own right (Magna Steyr — based in Graz, Austria — has been building cars under contract for companies like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and even Chrysler since the 1970s).
That said, these first 95 Ocean SUVs won’t be heading to any of the thousands of customers who’ve put deposits down on the vehicle. Instead, these are “pre production” examples that will be used for regulatory testing, QC, and (of course) press drives and promotional shoots.
As for that quality control aspect, the brand’s namesake and CEO, Henrik Fisker, sounds pretty happy with the way things are going. “It’s fantastic to see the quality of the Oceans currently being manufactured,” he said, adding that he was also happy “to also see them incrementally improving on every visit.”
In the meantime, the California-based company is working to build out its dealer network, with Fisker Lounge stores set to open in Los Angeles and Munich first, and followed by other key cities. Official production of the Fisker Ocean SUV is set to begin Nov. 17th.
