Trek Domane+ SLR is an E-bike with a Traditional Feel

Electric bikes have changed our expectations – but the Trek Domane+ SLR goes back to basics by being an ebike with road bike sensibilities.

It’s an interesting concept, creating an ebike that doesn’t feel like an ebike. After all, many people are buying into the idea that the extra cost means an extra experience. But like electric cars, not everybody is looking to stand out from the crowd – some people just want to stealthily blend in while still having a leg-up on standard pedal-powered bikes. For those people, the Trek Domane+ SLR hits the mark.

Based on an ultra-lightweight carbon frame coming in at just 11.75kg (25.9lbs), sporting a minimalist electric motor, and a right-sized battery pack, Trek put weight savings at the top of the priority list. This is also the first use of the 800-series carbon fiber frame, previously limited to the top-of-the-line 800-series road bikes. The frame alone saved 700 grams of weight compared to Treks other Domane+ ebikes.

The TQ-HPR50 e-bike system puts out 50 Nm of torque, good for speeds of up to 28 MPH/

45 KPH – at least in the U.S. market. In Europe, ebikes are limited to 25 KPH, or 15.5 MPH – and the 360Wh battery should be good for up to 100km/62 miles of pedal-assisted riding. An optional range extender, fitted where a water bottle might otherwise go, can add 50% more range to the battery pack.

The Trek Domane+ SLR starts at $8,999, putting it squarely on the higher end of the ebike market – but that’s the cost of blending in.
