Porsche Doubles Down on E-bike Biz

Porsche has been open about its big e-bike plans, but things are ramping up as it moves to start TWO new e-bike companies.

News of the company’s plans broke last week — along with word that the first of the two new brands will be called Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, which will have a large focus on the development of e-bike components including motors, batteries, and drive software. This company will also most likely take its inspirations from the technology that’s been developed by electric bicycle drive maker FAZUA, which the company acquired earlier this summer after already having invested in a 20% stake.

The second company will be called P2 eBike GmbH, and it will use the drive technology developed by Porsche eBike Performance GmbH to produce complete electric bicycles for customers.

Both companies will be joint ventures founded in tandem by Porsche and the Dutch company Ponooc Investment B.V.

Of course, Porsche’s presence has already been felt in the e-bike community, as the company has already released two high-end e-bikes under its own badge — the Porsche eBike Sport and the eBike Cross.

Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, said, “We see great potential for Porsche in the eBike segment. This is why we are consistently expanding our activities in this area. Jan Becker and Moritz Failenschmid are proven experts when it comes to setting up and developing forward-looking and customer-oriented ventures. As part of a highly skilled and motivated team, they will prove this in the two joint ventures. As is characteristic of [the brand], it’s all about developing products that inspire people through intelligent design, sophisticated technology and outstanding performance.”
