  • Ascend Elements and Call2Recycle collaborate on an advanced EV battery management program, merging advanced recycling tech with efficient logistics.
  • Ascend Elements’ Hydro-to-Cathode tech transforms old lithium-ion cells into new cathode materials, slashing costs and emissions in EV battery recycling.
  • Call2Recycle’s GreenTraxEV platform simplifies EV battery shipping and tracking, aiding dealerships and recyclers in readiness for a surge in returns.

The electric vehicle (EV) industry is charging forward with incredible strides in technology, a strong focus on sustainability, and mass adoption. However, with this acceleration comes a critical challenge to ensure that the batteries powering these electric vehicles are managed, transported, and recycled safely and responsibly. Recognizing this urgent need, Ascend Elements and Call2Recycle have forged a partnership to address the entire lifecycle of EV batteries.

Ascend Elements is taking the lead in EV battery recycling with its Hydro-to-Cathode direct precursor synthesis technology. What’s so cool about it is that it takes old lithium-ion cells into new cathode active materials (CAM). This technology makes battery recycling more cost-effective and helps cut down on greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional methods.

Call2Recycle’s GreenTraxEV platform complements Ascend Elements’ technological expertise. This cloud-based platform streamlines the process of shipping, tracking, and managing EV batteries through Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Power Platform. GreenTraxEV allows automotive dealerships, repair shops, and recyclers to easily ship mid-life, end-of-life, and damaged-defective EV batteries, ensuring smooth and hassle-free collection and transportation to Ascend Elements’ recycling facilities, thereby providing crucial support to assist them in gearing up for an anticipated surge in EV battery returns in the upcoming years.

Leo Raudys, CEO of Call2Recycle, shared his optimism about this partnership: “We are pleased to continue our partnership with Ascend Elements so that together we can make strides in building an infrastructure for Electric Vehicle battery transportation and recycling. Our commercial agreement will enable a convenient collection process through our state-of-the-art GreenTraxEV logistics platform.”

Ian Braime, Chief Commercial Officer of Ascend Elements, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “We’re excited to expand our partnership with Call2Recycle and offer a comprehensive EV battery recycling and tracking program to our customers. This new program will help automotive dealerships, repair shops, and recyclers prepare for the wave of EV batteries that is expected in the coming years.”

Ascend Elements’ EV battery recycling facility in Covington, Georgia, stands out as one of the largest in North America, with a capacity to process 30,000 metric tons annually. This facility will be central to the new program, which involves lithium-ion batteries from not just EVs but also plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), electric buses, aircraft, stationary energy storage, and even smaller devices like e-bikes and power tools.
