Gage Zero Partners with Hillwood to Build Texas’ First Public Commercial EV Charging Facility

Gage Zero, a leading fleet electrification solutions company based in Austin, Texas, has plans to build Texas’ first public commercial EV charging facility at AllianceTexas. This exciting initiative marks a significant stride towards realizing a zero-emission future and meeting the increasing need for dependable charging stations for electric vehicle fleets.

Hillwood, a well-known name in the world of industrial development, has played a significant role in transforming the North Texas economy through its AllianceTexas development. This 27,000-acre master-planned region features a mix of logistics, transportation, and commercial spaces.

It’s home to over 575 companies that have created more than 66,000 jobs and generated an estimated $120 billion in cumulative economic impact since 1989. Hillwood’s partnership with Gage Zero brings an innovative approach to sustainable infrastructure development, focusing on commercial EV charging stations.

The AllianceTexas development is a prime location for this project, with its well-established infrastructure, including the Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW) and the BNSF Alliance Intermodal Facility. This strategic site provides direct access to major transportation routes like I-35W and State Highway 170, making it an ideal hub for medium- and heavy-duty vehicle charging.

Russell Laughlin, Executive Vice President of Hillwood, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This groundbreaking initiative exemplifies our unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable infrastructure solutions that prioritize our customers’ needs. Through the deployment of innovative technologies, we expect to significantly enhance transportation efficiency, particularly in the crucial first and last mile segments of the logistics supply chain.”

Laughlin’s remarks highlight how essential commercial EV charging stations are in supporting sustainable infrastructure and ensuring the resilience of supply chains.

Gage Zero, led by Founder and Chief Executive Officer Zeina El-Azzi, has a strong track record of deploying clean energy projects on a global scale. El-Azzi’s team brings a wealth of experience, with a combined $10 billion in successful utility-scale clean energy projects. Gage Zero will develop, own, and operate the AllianceTexas EV charging hub as part of its growing network of sites across the United States.

El-Azzi highlighted the significance of this partnership, noting, “Hillwood is exactly the type of collaborator Gage Zero wants to work with to fulfill our mission. As innovators and leaders in our industries, together we can solve the complexity of both land development and electrification for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in a convenient location for fleet customers.”

The development of commercial EV charging stations is essential for achieving a zero-emission future. Medium- and heavy-duty (M/HD) electric fleets, while comprising less than 5% of vehicles on the road in the U.S., are responsible for nearly 25% of the transportation sector’s emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). By establishing convenient charging infrastructure, Gage Zero and Hillwood are contributing to a cleaner environment and helping companies meet sustainability goals.

Gage Zero’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure is further demonstrated by its $300 million partnership with ARC Financial Corp. to develop charging infrastructure sites for M/HD electric fleets. This investment is a testament to the company’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a zero-emission future.
