677 HP Mercedes-AMG EQE Electric Sport Sedan

Mercedes-AMG took the wraps off its all-new, all-electric, 677 HP, all-wheel drive EQE super sedan this week, showing off its most powerful E ever!

The new EQE53 AMG offers more aggressive styling, sportier interior, and AMG-specific solutions – particularly reflected in the areas of drive, suspension, brakes, sound, exterior and interior design, and equipment – to ensure a decidedly “AMG” driving experience.

“With the new model, we are expanding our range with a purely electrically powered performance vehicle and are thus addressing additional target groups. The AMG EQE focuses on sportiness and impressive driving dynamics,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “And that’s not the end of our Future of Driving Performance: After performance hybrids and all-electric AMG derivatives based on EVA2, stand-alone AMG electric vehicles will follow in the not-too-distant future. These are based on AMG.EA, our new, completely in-house-developed platform.”

The new Mercedes-AMG EQE uses two electric motors – one for each axle – for fully variable all-wheel drive. The system optimizes the drive power to the asphalt under all driving and road conditions, ensuring that each of the car’s 677 peak hp (when equipped with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package and boost function) serves the purpose of forward motion.

Power for the new Mercedes-AMG EQE motors comes from a high-capacity, 328-volt high-performance, li-ion battery manufactured using the latest technology. It has a usable energy content of 90.6 kWh and consists of ten modules with a total of 360 pouch cells that allows for up to 170 kW at fast charging stations with direct current, adding over 100 miles of range in under 15 minutes.

With its onboard charger, this electrified AMG can be also conveniently charged at home or at public charging stations with 110 or 220V alternating current. On the open road, Mercedes’ “Navigation with Electric Intelligence” program is exactly what it says on the tin. The sophisticated system plans the fastest and most convenient route, including charging stops, based on numerous live factors like temperature, speed, and traffic jams.

Big-screen Entertainment

Inside the EQE, AMG is giving a new voice to electric mobility – a soundtrack that the company says “emotionally enhances the dynamic driving experience” by providing “the hallmark AMG driving sounds” with the help of additional cabin hardware, including special speakers inside and out, a bass actuator and a sound generator.

The interior is also dominated by style-defining AMG features, including AMG seats with individual graphics and special seat covers in MB-Tex (synthetic suede) with microfiber and red decorative topstitching. AMG badges on the backrests of the front seats and embossed AMG emblems in the front head restraints complete the look – but it’s the massive “hyperscreen” infotainment system that dominates the interior.

Mercedes says that this large, curved screen that extends from A-pillar to A-pillar is actually three screens sitting under a glass cover that just “appear” to merge into one. With adaptive software, the MBUX adapts completely to its user, offering personalized suggestions for numerous infotainment, comfort, and vehicle functions. “With the innovative zero layer,” reads the company press release, “the most important applications are always displayed … on the top level in the field of vision.”

We are excited to see even more electrified product offerings coming to market at more affordable prices, even if they’re not “pure” BEVs. Regardless, this Kia may be the choice for someone who was hesitant about buying a BEV, and vehicles like it will help continue to shift the average driver away from internal combustion engines.
