The Nikola Tre BEV truck has qualified for the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program, good for up to $185,000 in rebates!
Electric semi truck manufacturer Nikola has jumped through all the hoops it needed to in order to get its Tre BEV truck qualified the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP). New York is just the latest state to accept the Tre, but New York is special. Special because its NYTVIP program offers up to $185,000 worth of incentives per truck.
For those of you keeping score, that’s significantly more than businesses get in ultra EV-friendly California, which caps out at $150,000 per truck for its state incentive program … which, it’s worth mentioning, the Nikola has also qualified for.
Getting Real
The ability to offer customers massive incentives– in addition to being one of the few EV startups actually delivering Class 8 trucks to customers at all– is a massive boost for the Arizona-based trucking startup, which hasn’t always been in the news for the right reasons (you can Google that, or just click here).
“We reached a significant milestone with the start of serial production for the Nikola Tre BEV at our Coolidge, Arizona manufacturing facility and are currently delivering saleable trucks to dealers for customer deliveries,” said Mark Russell, Nikola’s new CEO, having taken over from the company’s controversial founder, Trevor Milton, two years ago. “We look forward to scaling production and delivering 300-500 production vehicles to customers this year.”
Administered by the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA), NYTVIP offers a $185,000 incentive per truck (with a scrap requirement) to a limited pool of first-come, first-served customers that’s expected to move fast.
