VanMoof’s new, limited edition S3 Aluminum e-bike features a striking two-tone design that pushes the brand to a new level.
The limited edition S3 has the same performance specs as the standard S3, from the 37-93 mile range with 59 Nm of torque and a 20 mph top speed. The 504 Wh integrated battery can charge from 0% to 50% in 80 minutes and up to 100% in a total of four hours. It also comes with the S3’s security features like a smart kick lock, automatic rider recognition, and Bluetooth location tracking.
Really, though, anyone who’s looking at buying a VanMoof is doing it for the aesthetics – and the brand’s CEO seems OK with that. “VanMoof’s design philosophy has always been grounded in one indisputable truth,” he says, in the official release. “(The) joy of riding a bike lies in its simplicity.”
The brand released this special edition with the belief that its two-tone color scheme, “celebrates electric riding in its purest form,” and it’s hard not to feel the same way. Any VanMoof is beautifully spare and almost abstract in its design, with a straight frame that’s all about a clean, stripped-down look that feels Bauhaus in its blending of functional shape and simple, holistic design. The VanMoof Limited Edition S3 stands out by daring to brea up those lines with its brushed aluminum and matte black details.
There’s no word on how much this special edition frame weighs, but the original S3 has a coated aluminum frame and weighs just under 42 lbs. We also don’t know how many are available for purchase – VanMoof’s website only says a “very limited number” are available in Europe and the US But we do know how much it will cost: $2,648.
VanMoof has a reputation for stellar design, but we haven’t yet had an S3 (Aluminum or otherwise) to experience for ourselves. As such, we have some slight concerns about the comfort of the integrated saddle. Sure, anything else would distract from the perfect lines of the frame, but how well will it really support a rider? If you buy one, let us know!
