BMW and Mercedes-Benz Start EV Charging Network in China

A joint venture between the BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz Group aims to offer customers a seamless digital experience for EV charging in China.

Announcing a groundbreaking partnership for EV charging in China, BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. and Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd. have disclosed their commitment to establish a 50:50 joint venture in China. This new enterprise is poised to operate a high-power EV charging network.

Preparations are underway by BMW and Mercedes for the first stations; The companies expect to commence operations in 2024. The companies will locate the stations in primary NEV regions. The ambitious target is to have at least 1,000 stations installed nationwide, boasting around 7,000 charging piles by the end of 2026. The joint venture for EV charging in China is also committed to sustainability. Where conditions permit, the venture plans to procure electricity derived from renewable sources.
