ChargeNet Plugs into New Zealand

New Zealand's largest EV charging network, ChargeNet, has opened its first hypercharger site in Rotorua, right in the city's central business district.

EV charging network ChargeNet has opened its first “hyper charger” site in Rotorua, NZ, right in the city’s central business district!

The funding for this project was helped by the government’s Low Emission Transport Fund (LETF), which is administered by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) and site hosts Pukeroa Oruawhata Holdings Ltd. ChargeNet has surely been growing across New Zealand, with them receiving government funding back in 2021 to build sites in Waikato, Wellington, and Queenstown.

At this Rotorua hypercharging station, there will be charging available for four Combined Charging System (CCS) vehicles that go up to 300 kW and two CHAdeMO vehicles that go up to 62 kW, across four bays.

“A reliable electric vehicle charging network is essential for large-scale EV adoption, in particular charging hubs that can charge multiple vehicles at once, so drivers can travel longer distances between cities without worrying about queuing or congestion,” said ChargeNet’s marketing and communications manager, Bailey Gorst.

“The new site is conveniently positioned in central Rotorua, and will allow drivers to quickly add hundreds of kilometers of range in the time it takes to stop for coffee or do some quick shopping.”

These 300 kW “hyper chargers” from ChargeNet are the fastest DC charging locations in the country – they’re able to charge your EV up to 400 km (lust under 250 miles) in just 15 minutes.
