- Tesla deployed a record-breaking 4,053 MWh of energy storage products in Q1 2024.
Tesla Motors shared exciting news about its performance in the first quarter of 2024, hitting a significant milestone. Despite facing challenges, Tesla managed to produce an impressive 433,371 electric vehicles. However, the electric automaker faced a 20% decrease in deliveries compared to the previous quarter, suggesting that its price reductions are having less effect due to increased competition and lower demand.

The last time it experienced a sales decline was in the second quarter of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to production shutdowns.
Tesla is considering ways to increase its production capacity, including the potential manufacturing of the Tesla Semi at Gigafactory Berlin. The company mentioned that the drop in production volumes in Q1 2024 was partially because it was getting the Fremont factory in California ready to produce more of the updated Model 3, as well as there were shutdowns at its Berlin plant due to shipping diversions caused by the Red Sea conflict and an arson attack in early March.
In March 2024, Tesla achieved a significant milestone with its production numbers reaching 6 million electric vehicles. As the automaker celebrates its landmark production milestone, it faces stiff competition from Chinese automakers, like BYD, particularly in the wake of China’s complaint at the World Trade Organization regarding alleged discriminatory requirements for EV subsidies. Elon Musk acknowledged the competitive landscape, stating that Chinese EV makers pose a significant threat to the industry without trade barriers.
BYD surpassed Tesla as the largest EV maker in the fourth quarter, and newcomer Xiaomi, a consumer electronics and smartphone manufacturing company, has also entered the scene with the attention-grabbing Xiaomi SU7, priced at under $30,000 for the base model, which is cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 in China.

Tesla’s performance in Q1 2024, however, reflects resilience and determination. Despite operational disruptions across Europe and intensified competition from Chinese manufacturers, Tesla delivered 386,810 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles during the quarter, and 17,027 units of other models, such as the Model S sedan, Cybertruck, and Model X premium SUV.
While Tesla faces challenges, including a significant downturn in its stock performance, their commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles remains unwavering.
In addition to its production and delivery figures, Tesla deployed a record-breaking 4,053 MWh of energy storage products in Q1 2024. This accomplishment highlights Tesla’s dedication to renewable energy solutions, which are in line with its overarching goal of creating a more sustainable future.
Looking ahead, Tesla plans to unveil exciting new products, such as the eagerly awaited Tesla Redwood project, to further expand its market reach. With talks of a new affordable electric vehicle expected around mid-2025, Tesla is working hard to be sure all of its vehicles qualify for the U.S. federal EV tax credit, by sourcing all batteries in the U.S. going forward.
