Range, Price, and Powertrain
In areas of the US where public charging lags, plug-in hybrid models like the Niro have become popular. The 2024 Niro PHEV has about 33 miles of all-electric range and a total range of about 510 miles.
The Niro PHEV is available in two trims, the EX and SX Touring. The starting MSRP is $34,290. Unfortunately, the Niro is assembled outside of the US, so it is not eligible for any IRA tax credits or rebates.
The 2024 Niro PHEV features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a continuously variable automatic transmission, an AC synchronous electric motor, and an 11.1-kWh lithium-ion battery. The Niro PHEV delivers a combined 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. The small PHEV gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 53/54 MPG. It’s only available with front-wheel drive.
Drivers with plug-in hybrid EVs often charge overnight, and the Niro PHEV battery fills in under three hours using a Level 2 240-volt charging station.
The Attractive, Well-Equipped, and Safe Niro Plug-in Hybrid
Like many of the other Kia models, the automaker redesigned the Niro in 2023, and the 2024 model hasn’t changed – other than one paint color. Kia dropped the Fire Orange Metallic paint color.
What’s in the EX Trim
The Kia Niro EX PHEV comes with several standard driver-assistive features that include Automatic High-Beam Headlights, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Driver-Attention Monitoring, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Lane-Departure Warning, Lane-Keep Assist, Lane-Tracing Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, a Rearview Camera, and Traffic-Sign Recognition.
Comfort features include Niro include leather-trimmed cloth upholstery with heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, ambient interior lighting, and a synthetic-leather-wrapped steering wheel. The infotainment system features a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, several USB ports, and six speakers. It also has synthetic leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
