Finding a lightweight e-bike is like finding a unicorn. French bike company Angell has designed the S Rapide to try to be just that.
Weighing in at just 16.5 kg (35.94 lbs), the S Rapide is a lovely little urban bike that looks completely like an “acoustic” bike thanks to its sleek, agile design and downtube-hidden battery (that’s still removable and takes two hours to recharge). The light weight comes from its aluminum frame that’s only 2 mm thick.
Everything is sleek on this bike, including the double integrated rear lights and the turn signals built into the tips of the handlebars. It also has a fully customizable touchscreen that can display your speed, the pollution index of where you’re riding, battery levels, and an integrated GPS system.
Speaking of that GPS system, one neat trick is that, if you’re using the GPS to navigate, the handlebars vibrate to indicate which direction to go.
In a statement, the brand said, “Angell expertly fills a gap in the market for a functional yet beautiful product that does not compromise the ability to move quickly and freely around cities, whilst simultaneously enhancing the eco-responsibility and safety of our urban environment.”
You can buy the Angell S Rapide for €2,740 (about $2,880). The company allows buyers to try the bike out for 14 days, and if you don’t love it, you can return it for a 100% refund (though you’d still need to cover the return shipping costs).
