When a global automaker swaps CEOs, it usually means back-to-back board meetings, corporate jargon, and polite applause. But when Stellantis named Antonio Filosa as the new Chief Executive Officer? That hit different. And here’s why.

Antonio Filosa has been with the company for over twenty-five years, a tenure that outlasts the entire lifespan of some electric vehicles currently on the road. That kind of experience reflects deep, tested commitment. He has managed plant operations in Brazil, built manufacturing infrastructure from the ground up, and played a central role in expanding Jeep’s presence across Europe. The Board chose him for this role not because of appearances, but because of his history of results and his deep understanding of every layer of the organization.

According to Stellantis Executive Chairman John Elkann, “Antonio’s deep understanding of our Company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of Chief Executive Officer.”

He understands exactly how the company operates, and he has the confidence to make decisions that will drive results.

Let us take a moment to look at the full picture. What brands does Stellantis own? The answer often surprises people, simply because of the scale. Stellantis includes household names such as Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram. It also owns European staples like Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Opel, and Vauxhall. On the premium and performance end, the portfolio includes Maserati, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, DS Automobiles, and Abarth.

In addition to its vehicle brands, Stellantis operates Free2move and Leasys, which focus on mobility services and leasing solutions. Altogether, this collection represents decades of automotive design, performance, and global reach.

Filosa’s experience with Stellantis brands runs deep, and his time in South America made a measurable impact. While overseeing operations in the region, he played a central role in growing Jeep’s presence to the point where Brazil became the brand’s largest market outside of the United States.

And under his leadership, Stellantis developed one of the largest automotive manufacturing facilities in the region, the Pernambuco plant. That scale of production capability requires detailed planning and execution. During that period, FIAT rose to the number one position in South America, while Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, and Jeep all recorded meaningful growth.

Fast-forward to more recent moves. In 2024, Antonio Filosa was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Americas, overseeing operations across both North and South America. One of his key responsibilities involved addressing Stellantis’ overstocked U.S. dealer inventories, a problem that had quietly drained resources and weakened brand perception.

He responded by tightening operational controls, reorganizing the leadership structure, and focusing on new powertrain strategies. He also prioritized meaningful communication with dealers, suppliers, and unions, moving away from rehearsed talking points and toward conversations that actually addressed concerns.

And that timing couldn’t be more relevant. EVs are no longer a niche or a media talking point. They’re here. Stellantis is catching up, but it’s been slower off the line than some rivals. Tesla’s been sprinting. Ford and GM have already stumbled forward with their electric trucks. And the Chinese have been exporting affordable EVs at terrifying speeds.

But Stellantis is now committing real effort and resources to electric vehicles, with plans to introduce over 75 battery electric models by 2030 and a target of reaching 5 million global EV sales annually. Jeep is contributing to this direction with models like the Jeep Avenger, which has gained strong traction in Europe.

The Dodge Charger EV has been generating interest. The electric Ram 1500 is currently in development and expected to launch soon. In addition, Stellantis’ STLA platform is designed to support electric vehicle production across the company’s entire range of brands, enabling large-scale output.

Filosa’s appointment might be the tipping point. Someone who gets both sides of the coin, legacy and future. He told media in no uncertain terms, “It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” said Antonio Filosa. “I am grateful to our Chairman, John Elkann, and to the members of our Board for their leadership, particularly in these recent months, and for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence.”

Strong words. But behind those words is someone who’s walked the plant floors, studied the spreadsheets, and understands what keeps the wheels spinning, literally and figuratively.

Let’s not forget the pressure. Investors are watching. The American market is demanding. And Stellantis has to stay relevant while also staying profitable. People still want Jeep Wranglers and RAM trucks, but now they want them electric. Fast. Without compromising torque, range, or badge credibility. Not an easy combo.

And here’s the thing, Stellantis is still flying a little under the radar in the U.S. EV space. But that might actually be its edge. Less hype. More grind. And with someone like Antonio Filosa, who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves, there’s a real chance they’ll catch traction.

So, what brands does Stellantis make? What brands does Stellantis own? Now’s a good time to start paying attention. Because under Filosa’s watch, those brands may finally break out of their comfort zones.

As Banque Publique d’Investissement (Bpifrance) CEO Nicolas Dufourcq said, “At a moment of transformation for the global automotive industry, Antonio Filosa has the knowledge, the experience, and the talent to lead Stellantis to new successes.”

That’s a lot of trust. Now it’s time to see what he does with it.
