Hyundai has done it again! The Korean automaker’s latest model, the IONIQ 6 Electrified Streamliner, has won three prestigious World Car Awards for 2022: World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year. The awards for the IONIQ 6 recognized its unique aerodynamic design and impressive all-electric range. It beat out the other top three finalists, all launched in 2022.
Two-Time Winner
This is the second year in a row that Hyundai has won triple honors at the World Car Awards. Last year, the IONIQ 5 took home the same titles. The IONIQ 6 is the second model in Hyundai’s dedicated all-electric lineup brand. It also takes full advantage of a bespoke Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture to offer 800-V, ultra-fast charging capabilities for a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. And obviously, don’t forget the spacious interior.
Hyundai’s President and CEO, Jaehoon Chang, said, “This honor reinforces our commitment to be a global leader in vehicle electrification and will serve to embolden our efforts as a smart mobility solutions provider.”
The car’s design chief, SangYup Lee, also expressed his excitement .He stated that “the daring streamliner styling combines strong emotional appeal with aerodynamic efficiency to give exceptional range.”
IONIQ 6 Highlights
The IONIQ 6 comes with plenty of features. For example, it has Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, driver assistance systems, and advanced connectivity with over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The roomy interior is partially thanks to the long wheelbase at 2,950 mm (just over 116 inches).
Other features that helped earn some awards for IONIQ 6 include Dual Color Ambient Lighting and Speed Sync Lightning. What’s more, there’s the EV Performance Tune-Up and Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD) to reduce road noise and help you feel more immersed in the driving experience.
It has an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.21. Therefore, the IONIQ 6 is one of the most aerodynamic and energy efficient EVs on the market.
More Awards for the IONIQ 6
The car has won several other prestigious awards so far this year. Those awards include “Saloon of the Year” at the 2023 GQ Car Awards as well as “New Car of the Year” from Le Guide de l’auto. It has also earned a five-star safety rating and “Best in Class” selection in the “Large Family Car” category from Euro NCAP.
Hyundai plans to introduce 17 new BEV models by 2030. This will include Genesis luxury brand models, too. The brand also wants to boost annual global BEV sales to 1.87 million units by 2030.
In short, the IONIQ’s latest win will help to energize Hyundai’s efforts to accelerate its electrification strategy over the decade.
